2015 NBA Draft: Rumors That Could Impact Thursday’s Draft
The 2015 NBA Draft sounds off on Thursday night, and it certainly won’t be a quiet event if the NBA trade rumor mill leading up to it is any indication.
Impending free agents could have a direct impact on how tonight’s draft unfolds, as various sign-and-trade situations exist, big name players could be on the move and what happens outside of the draft could potentially cause a serious domino effect inside the draft.
We have a lot of time to peruse the rumors before the first pick goes live, but let’s filter through the madness and see if we can’t clear the picture up a bit:
Boogie on the Move?
The DeMarcus Cousins trade rumors just won’t die, as it’s been reported that the Kings and Lakers have exhanged framework on a potential trade. Sacramento has vehemently denied any interest in trading away their superstar center, but they’re also rumored to be interesting in trading down to select Kentucky big man Willie Cauley-Stein. Considering he plays Boogie’s position, the writing could be on the wall already.
Celtics Want Okafor
Jahlil Okafor is likely slated as the second best player in the 2015 NBA Draft, and if the Minnesota Timberwolves don’t take him with the #1 overall pick, the Los Angeles Lakers probably will at the two spot. Of course, with all of the trade rumors involving the Lakers, their pick could be up for grabs.
The Boston Celtics are one team that is hot on the trail to move up in the draft, and reports have surfaced that the prize they have their eye on is big man, Jahlil Okafor. Boston has two first round draft picks to trade and could also give up one of their big men to pull off a deal.
Whispers are getting louder about various pieces going to the Los Angeles Lakers. Cousins to L.A. could be the first chip to fall, but there is now talk about the likes of Kevin Love, LaMarcus Aldridge and Dwyane Wade all potentially having eyes for the Lake Show. It’s a hot rumor day and we can’t take it all to be truth, but it’s clear the Lakers want to stock up to make a run during the 2015-16 season, rather than wait. Is that the best idea? Their recent history probably tells us ‘no’.
See Ya, Monta
Monta Ellis opted out of his deal with the Dallas Mavericks and the team is said to be moving on from the talented guard. Ellis will likely go elsewhere in free agency, but there exists the possibility of a sign and trade.
Danilo Gallinari on the Block
Gallo dropped a nice 47-point game last year and looked to finally have his health back, so the Nuggets would probably be silly not to jump all over his value right now. That could mean he’s on the way out of town, as Denver is ready to blow their roster up and completely start over.
We already knew the likes of Ty Lawson, Kenneth Faried and Wilson Chandler were trade candidates, but now Gallo has been thrown into trade rumors, as well. He doesn’t have a clear suitor, but any team looking for a swing man that can score the ball will see what it’d take to get him. The Clippers and Pistons are two teams that could make some sense.
