Pre-Season Betting Preview of English Premier League
As August approaches, sports betting fans will no doubt be starting to think about the upcoming English Premier League. The 2013/2014 season kicks off in less than three weeks, on August 17th, and it once again promises to be an incredibly exciting. As usual, the pre-season betting is likely be mostly on which team will win the league and which teams will get relegated.
In the first part of this betting preview we will take a quick look at the men in charge of the three clubs that are, realistically, the only clubs in contention for the championship – Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea. Interestingly, all three of these teams go into the season with new managers. Manchester United legend Alex Ferguson, the most successful soccer manager of all time, retired back in May and has been replaced by David Moyes, previously of Everton.
Chelsea spent much of last season with interim manager Rafa Benitez in charge but the plan was always for him to leave at the end of the month. As the Chelsea fans never really took to Benitez, despite him winning the Europa League, there won’t be many of them shedding tears about his departure. This is especially true as his replacement is Jose Mourinho – still adored by the Chelsea supporters since his previous spell there.
The new man at Manchester City is the Chilean Manuel Pellegrini. He has joined from Spanish club Malaga, and replaces the fired Roberto Mancini. Manchester City’s owners have invested significant sums of money into the club and Mancini’s failure to win a trophy last season was deemed unacceptable. They will be hoping that Pellegrini does much better this year.
Keep an eye out for part two of this preview, where we will discuss the odds for these three teams and their chances of success. We will also look at a couple of outsiders that might be worth putting some money on.
