Browns Sticking With Brian Hoyer For Now
The Cleveland Browns had a chance to get the ball rolling on the Johnny Manziel era. They’ve chosen to wait. According to FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer, the team has informed Brian Hoyer that they are sticking with him as the starting quarterback going into week 14.
Hoyer had been playing poorly over the last several weeks, putting up eight interceptions against just three touchdowns during that span. More importantly, the Browns have dropped to 7-5 after a 6-3 start, losing two of their last three games.
In those two losses, Hoyer led Cleveland’s offense to just 10 total points, while the lone win during that three-game span was narrowly saved by Hoyer after an awful day filled with inaccurate passes and turnovers.
Initially named the starter heading into the season due to his experience and ability to play mistake-free football, Hoyer has turned into a turnover machine while the Browns season has slowly unraveled.
The Cleveland brass has decided to stick with the guy that got them to this point, however, and will allow Hoyer to prove them right in week 14 when they take on the Indianapolis Colts.
Doing so won’t be an easy task for Hoyer, however, as the Colts boast the league’s best scoring offense and will surely force Cleveland to try to put up more points than it is accustomed to.
If Hoyer can’t live up to the challenge and keep the Browns from losing for the third time in four weeks, it’s possible head coach Mike Pettine and the Browns will have to give in to the public outcry and move on at quarterback. In fact, if Hoyer can’t come out and play a clean game right away this Sunday, it’s entirely possible Johnny Football hits the field before the game even gets out of hand.
Johnny Manziel relieved an ineffective Hoyer in the fourth quarter of last week’s game, sparking three days of speculation around the quarterback position.
