Chris Bosh Likely Done For Year With Blood Clot
The Miami Heat just made a huge trade to help improve their positioning for the Eastern Conference playoffs. Now all that work may have been for nothing. Per reports, Miami big man Chris Bosh could be lost for the season due to a blood clot found in his lung.
No official timetable has been released on Bosh, but Brooklyn Nets forward Mirza Teletovic had a similar situation earlier this year and was immediately ruled out for the remainder of the season. Understandably, it’s a very serious situation and not one to be rushed back from. That likely puts an end to Bosh’s season.
Losing Bosh is a huge blow for the Heat, who had been barely keeping their heads above water prior to this news. In fact, they were struggling so much that they went all in on a trade for Phoenix Suns star point guard Goran Dragic, in an effort to get them over the hump. Such a move hypothetically gave the Heat a revamped “Big 3” and would give them a real shot at jumping up the standings the rest of the way.
Doing that now, even with Dragic, may prove to be difficult without Bosh’s scoring and defense in place. Of course, Miami isn’t completely dead in the water without Bosh necessarily, as center Hassan Whiteside has stepped up in a massive way over the past month. Should his stellar play remain consistent or even improve, the Heat could still be in decent shape in the paint.
While the Heat still have plenty to be optimistic about and will almost surely crack the playoffs in a weak Eastern Conference, this is a huge hit to their title chances. After appearing in the past four NBA Finals, this current rendition of the Heat may have to wait until Bosh is healthy again next year before making a serious run.
Bosh will end the year with averages of 21.1 points and seven rebounds per game.
