Jameis Winston Suspended For One Full Game
Jameis Winston won’t miss half of Saturday night’s game against Clemson. He’ll miss all of it. According to reports, Florida State has upped it’s initial one-half suspension of their star quarterback to a full game and he will not appear in tonight’s showdown with 22nd ranked Clemson.
Winston was originally suspended for the first half of Saturday night’s contest due to inappropriate remarks made in public, after the Heisman winner jumped on top of a table and shouted a popular, yet extremely vulgar phrase.
After much deliberation and discussion, the school ultimately decided one half of a game wasn’t enough discipline, and decided to extend Winston’s suspension for the entire contest.
Much has been made about Winston’s latest off field issue, as his comments are especially troubling considering they were of sexual manner and he had been accused of rape in the past.
Needless to say, the Florida State brass didn’t take it lightly and thought in the end that their initial punishment wasn’t severe enough. This way, hopefully Winston would actually learn his lesson and by default, other players would see quite easily that this type of behavior would not be tolerated by anyone – not even the team’s best and most popular player.
While this is obviously big news for Winston and college football simply for the suspension of a big name players, this is even bigger news for the #1 ranked Florida State Seminoles. They have an underrated matchup on their hands against the Clemson Tigers on Saturday night, and will have to try to keep their record unblemished without their best player.
With Winston out, backup quarterback Sean Maguire will almost certainly be under center for the entire game. Not much is known about Maguire, but everyone should get a pretty good taste of what the redshirt freshman can do in a prime time battle.
