Jeff Gordon Wins Brickyard 400
Jeff Gordon and his racing team overcame a bad history of rough restarts in 2014 to land a perfect one and take first place in the 2014 Brickyard 400. Gordon passed over teammate Kasey Kahne with 16 laps to go and held down the top spot to secure his fifth career Brickyard 400 victory.
Gordon won the inaugural Brickyard 400 back in 1994 and the 42-year old turned back the clock in impressive fashion to add another win to his awesome career.
While Gordon taking home this year’s Brickyard 400 is the main story, there are some other interesting tidbits from the weekend’s race. A particularly biting one is the fact that parts were confiscated from Denny Hamlin’s No. 11 Toyota car. After finishing third in the race, Hamlin had parts (unknown at this time) taken from his vehicle, likely to be inspected.
It’s not known why parts from Hamlin’s car have been confiscated, but any penalty is still unlikely to hurt his comfortable position in the Chase race. Hamling would likely retain his third place finish in the Brickyard 400 no matter what, and would merely see a hit via points and/or earnings being deducted.
Other big names with solid finishes were Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kevin Harvick, Matt Kenseth, Kyle Busch and Gordon’s teammate, Kasey Kahne. Kahne finished sixth in the race, with Busch taking second behind Gordon. Kenseth finished right behind Jamlin in fourth, while Earnhardt Jr. and Harvick took ninth and eighth place, respectively.
Hot rookie Kyle Larson had a great race, as he cracked the top-10 with a seventh place finish, as well. Larson gained a point in the Chase standings but isn’t a lock to make the cut. Veteran Joey Logano was also an honorable mention in the race, bouncing back from some rough finishes to take fifth place.
