Pierre Thomas Out 2-3 Weeks With Shoulder Injury
Just when the New Orleans Saints get one offensive player back, they lose another. Per reports, the team will have to run their offense without versatile running back Pierre Thomas for the next 2-3 weeks, as he’ll miss time with a shoulder injury.
Mark Ingram had just some back from a broken hand, so it’s oddly perfect timing for the Saints to suddenly lose another running back. While it’s never a good thing to lose such a versatile weapon like Thomas, the Saints can lean back on at least having Ingram back.
Ingram had been quite productive for a few weeks before breaking his hand, although he struggled mightily in his return last week against a stout Detroit Lions run defense. He should have better luck this week against a somewhat soft Green Bay Packers run defense, however.
While Ingram will step up into a more “featured” role and should see more targets in the passing game, Thomas’ actual replacement is going to be Travaris Cadet. Cadet projects well in the third down/passing down role and it’s possible the Saints don’t really miss a bit while Thomas is out. Of course, Thomas was a much more experienced and more reliable presence in the backfield, so there is still a chance his loss could represent a problem.
Saints’ Week 8 odds
New Orleans naturally may see their week eight odds dip a bit, as they already were probably slated to be underdogs when they hosted a red hot Green Bay Packers team this week. Green Bay had already been tightening things up on the defensive side of the football, but things could get more difficult for the Saints now that the green and gold have one less weapon to worry about.
The Saints could be fine in the end though, if star tight end Jimmy Graham can return to full strength for the explosive clash. As it stands, this game is shaping up as a true toss-up and a likely shootout, even with it being in New Orleans.
