Rockets Land Corey Brewer in Trade With Timberwolves
Kevin Love isn’t the only player to be traded out of Minnesota this year. Per reports, the Timberwolves have landed a deal to send swing man Corey Brewer to the Houston Rockets. Minnesota gets point guard Troy Daniels and two future second round draft picks and will also send injured big man Ronny Turiaf to the Rockets with Brewer.
Making Room for Muhammad
This is a key move for the Timberwolves to free up room for some of it’s young talent. Brewer was a solid veteran just wasting away on a 5-21 squad, but with him now in Houston, Shabazz Muhammad and Andrew Wiggins should be able to take over as the team’s top wing players. Muhammad was already making a name for himself as a scorer off the bench, but could now be inserted into Minnesota’s starting five as soon as Friday evening.
Minnesota still has no shot at the playoffs this season, and they knew that. This move merely has them gaining some assets, while also getting some much-needed point guard depth via Daniels.
Houston, on the other hand, is a potential title contender that simply needed a bigger spark off of their bench. They have easily one of the best starting five’s in the league, but lacked a scoring or defensive punch off the bench. With Brewer, they get both. Brewer is a rangy defender that can play multiple positions and defend at a high level, while also creates on the fast break and can shoot from outside. He’s a tremendous veteran addition for a team hopeful to make a run to the Finals this year.
Turiaf figures to be a mere throw-in and may not even remain with the team through the week. However, if Turiaf does stick in Houston and can get healthy, he’d give them an extra big body off the bench that can play some defense and block shots.
