Timberwolves, Warriors Trade With Kevin Love?
Kevin Love to Golden State is a rumor that just won’t die down. Though talks between the Golden State Warriors and Minnesota Timberwolves had broken down, reports suggest they’re back up and very much alive.
It could be nothing, but Warriors GM Bob Myers and Minnesota GM and head coach Flip Saunders were seen talking together on Sunday, which could be a sign that trade talks are back on.
A deal sending Kevin Martin and Love to Golden State previously broke down due to Golden State’s reluctance to part with young shooting guard Klay Thompson. In addition, Minnesota wasn’t too keen on taking on over $30 million in salary that would be owed to power forward David Lee, who would also be a key part of the deal.
The pieces are moving and the rumors are about as concrete as anything else in the NBA these days, but the Love to Warriors trade rumors at at the very worst a possibility.
With LeBron James returning to the Cleveland Cavaliers recently, other rumors popped up that had the Cavs interested in landing Love to give Cleveland it’s own “Big 3”. Minnesota reportedly required 2014 #1 draft pick Andrew Wiggins to be included in any prospective deal, but Cleveland has since said Wiggins won’t be traded.
After a strong showing early in summer league action, trading Wiggins seems even less likely. That doesn’t necessarily mean that talks are dead between the T’Wolves and Cavs, but it certainly doesn’t help.
Either way, the mere possibility of Cleveland landing a deal for Love could be a big reason why the Warriors are trying to rekindle talks. New head coach Steve Kerr remains adamant that he wanted to coach Golden State’s roster as constructed – specifically with Klay Thompson in place. However, his tune could quickly change if Thompson could indeed be the deciding piece that gets the Warriors a game-changer such as Love.
