USA Men’s Basketball Team 19-Player Roster
The 2014 USA Men’s National basketball team roster is one step closer to being set. The team added two first-time competitors in Chandler Parsons and DeMar DeRozan, who will compete with the other 17 veterans for a spot on the final roster during the team’s training camp from July 28th to August 2nd.
Derrick Rose highlights an impressive training camp roster, as he tries to work his way back to 100% after appearing in just 10 NBA regular season games over the past two seasons.
The rest of the 19-man roster includes the 2010 World Championship MVP, Kevin Durant, as well as Bradley Beal, DeMarcus Cousins, Stephen Curry, Andre Drummond, Anthony Davis, Paul George, Kenneth Faried, Blake Griffin, James Harden, Gordon Hayward, Kyrie Irving, Kyle Korver, Damian Lillard, Kevin Love and Klay Thompson.
The 19 players will be representing 18 NBA teams, with Curry and Thompson teaming up as the only two players from the same team – the Golden State Warriors.
Some of the inclusions may look odd at first glance, but each player brings either a well-rounded overall game or fulfills a specific role. Kyle Korver, for one, is a name that jumps off the page, as he’s far from one of the elite players in the league. While he’s not a top level athlete or defender, he is arguably the league’s best outside shooter on a regular basis, however.
On the flip-side, the 19-man USA Men’s National team does consist of some of the leagues best athletes and more prolific scorers. Harden and Durant are easily two of the NBA’s top scorers, while the roster is littered with explosive athletes.
The roster itself is impressive as it stands, but should look even better once competition filters out the weaker players and gives USA a final team.
The USA Men’s National basketball team has fared well lately, going a remarkable 62-1 since 2005.
