Week 16 Daily Fantasy Football: Best Picks at Each Position
Our top picks for daily fantasy football were rather kind to us in week 15. If you took heed of our fantasy football advice, you may have found yourself using studs like Cam Newton, Julio Jones, Jordan Reed and the Chiefs defense.
All of those guys completely wrecked, and while we didn’t list other mashers like Kirk Cousins (who saw THAT coming?), David Johnson (ditto) and Antonio Brown, we still had a very strong week. We hope you did as well, but week 15 is already almost over and it’s on to the next one. Let’s gear up for another fun week of daily fantasy football by picking the top “sure things” at each position at DraftKings for week 16:
QB: Drew Brees – Saints ($6.8k) and Ben Roethlisberger – Steelers ($6.8k)
You can pay up for guys like Cam Newton and Tom Brady if you want a little more safety, but why? Brees faces a very beatable Jaguars defense and is at home, where he’s averaging 27 fantasy points per game. The price, matchup and upside point to a massive week for Brees and he’ll help you save a little extra cash to build out the rest of your daily fantasy football roster.
Ditto with Big Ben, who faces a trash Ravens secondary and is the exact same price. Roethlisberger and co. seem rather unstoppable after completely lighting up the Denver Broncos vaunted pass defense last week. Baltimore is about to get wrecked and you can get Big Ben at a solid price, considering the upside.
RB: Doug Martin – Buccaneers ($6.6k) and David Johnson – Cardinals ($5.8k)
I’m not loving the idea of paying big money for guys like Devonta Freeman or Adrian Peterson to sack me in week 16. Instead, save a little cash and roll with The Muscle Hamster, who has now churned out 10+ fantasy points in six straight contests. Against a down and out Bears team, he could have a monster outing.
Johnson was a terrific value last week when he poured it on thick via 180+ rushing yards and three scores, and in week 16 he climbs just $100 more and goes up against a beatable Green Bay run defense. He’s Arizona’s feature back and has explosive ability, but the big thing is he’s a rare elite option at the position that costs very little. Everyone will be using him in week 16 and you probably can’t avoid doing the same.
WR: Odell Beckham Jr. – Giants ($9.2k) and Antonio Brown – Steelers ($9.3k)
There’s no reason to get cute at the top of the wide receiver ranks. ODB has been a total machine lately and as long as he doesn’t get served a suspension for getting into scuffles this past week, he’ll remain one of the best elite options at the position. The same goes for Brown, who dropped nearly 50 fantasy points in a brutal matchup last week. Neither of these guys can really be stopped, so even though they’re very steep prices, they’re worth paying up for.
TE: Rob Gronkowski – Patriots ($7.6k) and Greg Olsen – Panthers ($7k)
The same goes for the tight end position. Jordan Reed is cheaper and very much in play, but why stray from Gronkowski and Olsen? These guys are expensive, but they’re also a threat to score every single week and get the ball there way plenty every game.
DEF: Seattle Seahawks ($4.3k) and Kansas City Chiefs ($4.2k)
Keep it simply at defense, too. There are quite a few cheaper options you can try to go with to save up some cash, but if you want a locked and loaded option, think Seahawks or Chiefs. Seattle gets a bad Rams team that they should be able to put the clamps down on, while KC hosts the lowly Browns. These defenses are quite pricey, but they’re also probably as stable as it gets.
Most of these options feel pretty obvious this week, but they’re also rock solid elite options that probably won’t leave you stranded in week 16. They also may require you to take a few dives in the bargain bin. For that, be sure to come back this week for our weekly glance at the top DraftKings value buys.
