A typical baseball run line bet will look like this:
New York Yankees: +1.5 -120
Minnesota Twins: -1.5 +110
In this bet the Yankees must win by at least 2 runs. If the Yankees only win by 1 run, it is considered a loss in terms of the bet. The Twins can lose by 1 run and anyone who bet on them will be given the win.
In addition to the point spread, the money line also affects this game. Anyone who bets on the Yankees must put up $120 for every $100 they hope to win. Anyone betting on the Twins can put up $100 for every $110 they hope to win. The bets don't have to be in $100 increments, that's just how it's written for simplicity's sake.
Baseball Over and Under Bets
Over and Under bets also look different in baseball but they are simple bets all the same. An over or under bet is a prediction on whether the total score for the two teams will be over or under a certain number picked by the sports book. They also include the use of money line odds.
Here's what a typical baseball over / under bet looks like:
New York Yankees: OV 7.5 -120
Minnesota Twins: UN 7.5 +110
In this example if you take the over you are betting that the combined score of the two teams will be 8 runs or more (the .5 is used to avoid tie bets). If you take the under, you are betting that the total of the two scores will be 7 runs or fewer.
The money line is the same as in regular money lines. If you take the Yankees in this bet, you'll be required to risk $120 for every $100 you want to win. If you take the Twins for the under, you can win $110 for every $100 you wager.
