5 Reasons Why the Biggest Casino Isn’t Always the Best Casino

I used to dream of gambling in the biggest casinos in the world, but when I finally got the opportunity to play in a few big casinos, I found that I actually liked smaller casinos better.

Your experience might not end up being the same as mine, but you should play in both big and small casinos to see which you prefer.

Small casinos have to operate a little different from big casinos, and the things they can do differently are why small casinos are always going to be better than big casinos. However, here are five reasons why a big casino isn’t always better than a small casino.

1 – Too Many People in Big Casinos

I admit that some people like things that I don’t like. For example, some people like to spend time around a lot of other people, which I don’t like in any way. It’s not that I don’t enjoy spending time with other people, because I enjoy other people. It’s just that I don’t like spending time around too many other people at the same time.

When I gamble in a big casino, there are almost always too many people in the casino. You have to walk around people everywhere you go, and the noise gets almost too hard to handle. People are always running into you and touching you, and you can’t walk in a straight line to get anywhere in the casino.

The big casino has more slots games and video poker machines than smaller casinos, but there always seems to be someone at the machine you want to play. And even though there are more table games in the big casino, the tables are full, and you still have to wait to get a seat at your favorite game sometimes.

On the other hand, when you gamble in a smaller casino, you don’t have to dodge 100 people to walk from one place to another, and there’s almost always a seat available at your favorite table game. And while smaller casinos also have a lot of noise, the noise is nothing compared to the noise in a big casino.

At a couple of the small casinos where I gamble, I can park close to an entrance and be inside in a minute or less. However, sometimes when I play in a big casino, I have to park a mile away, and it takes 15 minutes to get from my car to the casino floor.

If you’re like me and prefer to spend time around a few people instead of tons of people, a smaller casino will offer a much better experience.

2 – Ask and Receive

When you gamble in a big casino, you’re just another face in the crowd, or worse, you’re just another number. Of course, if you’re a high roller, risking $1,000’s per hand, the casino is going to consider your requests. But most of us can’t afford to risk too much money.

If you’re betting $20 a hand at the blackjack table and ask the pit boss for a perk or rule change, you’re going to be lucky if the boss gives you the time of day. But when you’re playing in a small casino, you have a much better chance for your request to be taken seriously.

The fact is that you won’t receive anything extra if you never ask, but when you’re a small fish in a big pond, your requests are about the same as not asking at all.

You should ask for things when you’re gambling. Even if you’re a member of the slots club or rewards program in a casino, it doesn’t hurt to ask for a free buffet ticket after you’ve been gambling for a couple of hours. The worst thing that can happen is your request is denied.

Do you think you have a better chance to have a request heard and granted in a casino with 1,000’s of other gamblers, or in a casino where the casino staff knows they have to do everything they can to keep gamblers in the casino and coming back to gamble again?

You’re not going to get everything you ask for in any casino, but you should play the odds, just like you play the odds when you gamble. Gamble where you have the best chance to get what you ask for, which is always going to be at a smaller casino.

3 – Personal Service

It might speak more to how often I gamble than how friendly some casino staff is, but I’ve gambled in a few smaller casinos over the years where many of the staff called me by name. Likewise, I’ve been greeted by name when I entered the casino and called by name by many dealers. And I’m not a high roller, risking a lot of money when I gamble.

When you gamble in a big casino, you’re just another face in the crowd. You can gamble in a big casino every day for a week, and nobody will recognize you. But you can gamble in a small casino every day for a week, and many people on staff are going to recognize you.

It’s easier to receive personal service in a small casino. Small casinos don’t stay in business by running gamblers off. Small casinos stay in business by keeping gamblers happy, and one way to make gamblers come back is making the gamblers feel like the casino staff knows who they are.

Of course, being called by name doesn’t help you win, but it does make for a better experience. If I want to gamble without anyone knowing who I am, I gamble online or in a big casino. But when I want to have a good time and enjoy my gambling experience with other people, a smaller casino is where I go.

4 – Better Blackjack Rules

You’re not always going to find blackjack tables with better rules in a smaller casino than you can find in big casinos, but some of the blackjack tables with the best rules I’ve found are in smaller casinos. So if you’re a blackjack player, you need to check out the rules for every blackjack table, including in big and small casinos.

When you play blackjack, the table rules are directly responsible for the house edge. Therefore, when you play blackjack at a table with better rules, you have a better chance to win.

Finding blackjack tables with good rules is even more important when you use blackjack strategy. With strategy use and good rules, blackjack offers the lowest house edge in the casino. And if you count cards, a table with good rules is required.

If you’re playing blackjack in a smaller casino and the rules aren’t great, ask the pit boss if they’re willing to use a different rule.

For Example:

If the table doesn’t allow double after split, ask the pit boss if you can use the double after split rule. Sometimes the boss will say no, but sometimes they’re going to say yes. You have better odds of getting the rules changed in a small casino than in a big casino.

5 – Better Rewards Programs

Small casinos are fighting big casinos for gamblers. The big casinos offer more games and more things to do than smaller casinos, so the smaller casinos have to offer something that big casinos don’t.

When you’re gambling and want to take a break and get something to eat, a big casino might have a dozen or more dining options. A small casino might only have two or three food options. If you want to visit the spa after a day of gambling, a big casino is probably your only option.

But if you don’t care about these things, a smaller casino is usually a better choice. And one area where I’ve found a smaller casino can be better than a big casino is in the rewards you can earn from the player’s club.

You need to check out the player’s club rewards in every casino, and in some cases, you get the same level of rewards in a big casino that you get in a small casino. But some smaller casinos offer better rewards than bigger casinos as a way to keep gamblers coming back more often.

If you don’t know if the rewards are better in a small casino than in a big casino, simply ask the person at the reward’s desk. Tell them you’re a club member at a big casino, and you want to know if the small casino can offer you a better rewards deal.

Conclusion

Bigger isn’t always better when it comes to casinos. Big casinos have some benefits, but they’re not the best choice for every gambler. Sometimes you might want to avoid the big crowds and spend a quiet evening at a casino.

Smaller casinos offer some things that you can’t find at big casinos. So if you’re looking for smaller crowds, better rules, or better service, a small casino is going to offer a better gambling experience than most big casinos.

Of course, you might still want to try a big casino to see if you like it better, but I bet you’re going to find a smaller casino provides a better overall gambling experience.
