On Wednesday, May 27th, NASCAR returns to the Charlotte Motor Speedway for their second consecutive race. On Sunday, the sport held their annual Memorial Day Weekend Coca-Cola 600 event. On Wednesday, NASCAR will run the Alsco Uniforms 500.
Just like they did with last Wednesday’s Toyota 500 at Darlington, this week’s Alsco Uniforms 500 race will invert the Top 20 drivers from Sunday’s Coca-Cola 600 finishing order to establish the starting grid. Spots 21 through 40 will line up as they finished on Sunday.
NASCAR betting sites have listed Chase Elliott and Martin Truex Jr. as co-betting favorites to with the Alsco Uniforms 500 race. Kyle Busch, Alex Bowman, Kevin Harvick and Jimmie Johnson are next in line for betting odds to win the race.
Total Miles: 310.6 miles
Total Laps: 208 laps
Stage 1: First 55 laps
Stage 2: Second 60 laps
Final Stage: Remaining 93 laps
The Alsco Uniforms 500 is set to begin at 8 PM ET and will air live on FS1.
We're pumped to be named title sponsor of the May 27 NASCAR Cup Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway! 🏁🏁🏁
According to most NASCAR betting sites, the following drivers are considered the odds on favorites to win the Alsco Uniforms 500 on Wednesday at Charlotte:
Martin Truex Jr.
Chase Elliott (+500)
For the second straight event, Chase Elliott had some bad luck at the end of the race. Last week in Darlington, he was wrecked by Kyle Busch. On Sunday, Elliott would’ve won the Coca-Cola 600 if it weren’t for a late caution that cost him the victory.
Elliott’s teammate William Byron cut a tire and caused the caution. Brad Keselowski was able to win the race off pit road and end up taking the checkered flag. Prior to Byron’s tire incident, Elliott had a big lead on the second place driver.
Chase would end up finishing 2nd overall on Sunday after Jimmie Johnson was disqualified for a post-race inspection. Elliott led 38 laps of the Coca-Cola 600 and moved up to 4th in the standings. Although he hasn’t won yet, Elliott is showing good form in 2020.
For the Alsco Uniforms 500, Elliott is the co-betting favorite due to his strong run on Sunday. It was also his third Top 4 finish in the last four Charlotte races.
Elliott is clearly going to be a tough driver to beat on Sunday. I expect the #9 car to contend for a checkered flag. He’s finished in the Top 10 four times in eight career CMS races and I see that easily happening on Wednesday (-400). I also see Elliott being a Top 3 car (+160)
Martin Truex Jr (+500)
Martin Truex Jr. was my pick to win on Sunday at the Coca-Cola 600. Unfortunately, after leading the second most laps (87), his car wasn’t able to hang at the end of the race with Chase Elliott and others. However, Truex still finished 6th overall. It was his 5th straight Top 6 finish and his 8th Top 6 in the last nine CMS races.
Truex also moved up to 5th in the driver standings with his strong run at Charlotte on Sunday. Keep in mind, he was 15th prior to NASCAR’s return and has tallied three straight Top 10 finishes.
I expect Truex to easily score another Top 10 (-455) finish on Wednesday. I also believe he will be one of the only drivers to hang with Chase Elliott and possibly edge him out in the end. Truex should at least be a Top 3 (+145) car when it’s all said and done on Wednesday night.
Kyle Busch (+650)
Like his teammate Truex, Busch has also benefited from NASCAR’s return. He’s put together two straight Top 4 finishes and has moved up to 8th in the standings. He was 11th when NASCAR went on hiatus.
Kyle Busch would be the first to tell you that he was luckier than good on Sunday when he finished 4th overall. Busch believed he had a Top 10 car, but barely. He was never a factor to win the race, but did get some much needed points.
Busch’s 4th place result was his third straight Top 4 finish. I had picked him to contend with Truex for the checkered flag on Sunday. I have the same thoughts for the Alsco Uniforms 500 as well.
Although Busch didn’t have a great car on Sunday, he did on Monday when he won the Xfinity race at the same track. He’s also going to run the truck race on Tuesday.
Busch should easily crack the Top 10 (-375) and I believe he’s a Top 3 (+190) contender. Busch and Truex might need to work together to beat Elliott if Chase has as good of a car as he did on Sunday.
Alex Bowman (+700)
Alex Bowman will start 2nd on Wednesday after finishing 19th on Sunday which kept him 3rd overall in the driver standings. Bowman had a strong car in the Coca-Cola 600 as he led the most laps at 164. Unfortunately, his car faded later in the race and he became a non-factor.
Despite his success on Sunday, it’s hard for me to believe in Bowman for the Alsco Uniforms 500. He only has two Top 10s in eight career races at this track. Furthermore, he’s only led 172 laps in those eight races with 164 coming on Sunday.
For me, I believe that Bowman is overvalued at +700 odds. I don’t see him being better than his teammate Chase Elliott and I don’t see him even finishing in the Top 5 (-143). His ceiling is a Top 10 finish (-335) in Wednesday’s race.
Kevin Harvick (+800)
Harvick’s 5th place result in the Coca-Cola 600 was a ho-hum performance as he never was a danger to win the race or to finish outside the Top 10. However, it was another Top 10 result for the #4 car, which he’s done in every race this season to date.
Harvick continues to sit on top of the driver standings with a 23 point lead over Joey Logano. He had a 34 point lead prior to Sunday’s race.
I truly believe Harvick will finish in the Top 10 (-240) again. In fact, for a driver who’s finished in the Top 10 every race this season, those odds of -240 are appealing. I don’t see him being a Top 3 (+275) car, but there is a chance he can snag a Top 5 (+140) for the second straight Charlotte race.
Jimmie Johnson (+900)
It’s been two years since Johnson has won a race. And, he was close on Sunday with a second place finish after leading six laps on the day. Johnson started 2nd overall and kept up with the track all race long.
Unfortunately, JJ’s #48 car failed the post-race inspection as his rear alignment was beyond the legal threshold. Johnson was disqualified and his 2nd place finish was replaced with a 40th place result.
Johnson is one of the most prolific drivers to ever race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. He has eight wins, 16 Top 5s, 22 Top 10s, and a 13.0 average finish in 36 starts.
With that said, I don’t see Johnson finishing in the Top 5 (-200) this Wednesday. I see him cracking the Top 10 (-225), but that’s all. Sadly, the losing streak will continue another week.
The Best Alsco 500 Betting Value
The following NASCAR drivers offer betting value for this Wednesday’s race due to their current betting odds, their past success at Charlotte Motor Speedway, and their 2020 season so far:
Joey Logano (+1200)
As mentioned above, Logano is second in the driver standings as he’s cut Harvick’s lead down to 23 points. Logano finished 13th in Charlotte on Sunday after leading 22 laps. He will start 8th on Wednesday in the Alsco Uniforms 500.
Despite his recent string of races at CMS, I had picked Joey Logano to be a Top 5 car in the Coca-Cola 600. I believe he will once again crack the Top 10 (-225) and flirt with another Top 5 (+160) finish.
With a little bit of luck, he could even take the checkered flag on Wednesday just like his teammate Brad Keselowski did on Sunday.
Kurt Busch (+1600)
Kurt Busch is slowly inching his way back up in the driver standings. He currently sits 12th overall after a 7th place finish on Sunday. Busch started from the pole and led 54 laps. Unfortunately, the rain delay stopped his momentum and he was never able to get to the front again.
Sunday’s result was the 4th Top 7 finish for Busch in the last five races. He’s shown a consistent improvement over the last three races and should be a Top 10 (-122) car on Wednesday. But, I’m not sure he will be a Top 5 car by time it’s all said and done (-455)
Busch will have to show that his #1 car can race without clean air, which is something he couldn’t prove in the Coca-Cola 600. Once he got back in the pack, Busch was just another Top 15 car until late in the race.
Matt Kenseth (+4000)
Kenseth was one of my favorite value plays on Sunday, but his first time back in the Coca-Cola 600 didn’t work out well for the #42 car as he finished 26th overall. His car was not strong enough to hang with the Top 15 all day even after he started 4th.
Nevertheless, Kenseth has had a lot of success at Charlotte in his career and I believe this shorter race on Wednesday will produce better results for the recently retired driver.
I see Kenseth being at least a Top 10 car (+150). I believe he will rebound from Sunday’s poor showing. Like with Keselowski and other drivers, a late caution could be just what he needs to get up toward the front of the pack and compete for the checkered flag.
The Top Longshot to Win the Alsco Uniforms 500 From Charlotte
Austin Dillon (+6600) is my longshot pick for the second straight Charlotte race. He finished 14th on Sunday despite not having a strong car. Dillon will start 7th in the Alsco Uniforms 500 race.
Let’s not forget that he’s won at Charlotte before, when he captured the checkered flag for the 2017 Coca-Cola 600. With another Top 10 (+200) finish at CMS on Wednesday, Dillon could crack the Top 15 in the driver standings for the season which is added motivation for the 30 year old driver.
Alsco Uniforms 500 Checkered Flag
For the second straight Charlotte race, I’m picking the same Top 5 drivers: Kevin Harvick, Kyle Busch, Chase Elliott, Martin Truex Jr. and Joey Logano.
On Sunday, I wasn’t as confident in Elliott and Logano as I am for the Alsco Uniforms 500. They both led laps and looked good at various stages of the Coca-Cola 600 race. Harvick is a Top 10 machine and should snag 5th again. But, like Sunday’s race it’s all about Busch and Truex.
“I believe this race will come down to Kyle Busch and Martin Truex Jr. With that said, I really like what Truex has done at this track in recent years. Furthermore, I believe he’s poised to win at least one of these two Charlotte races. If he doesn’t win on Sunday then I’m taking him on Wednesday.”
Since Truex didn’t win on Sunday, I am sticking with my word and taking him to win the Alsco Uniforms 500 on Wednesday.
The following NASCAR prop bets are courtesy of DraftKings:
Car Number of Race Winner
Once again, the “even” betting option is a huge favorite. However, it was only -225 on Sunday. For this race it’s -278.
With that said, I still like the “odd” option here as I picked Martin Truex Jr. and his #19 car to win. Additionally, Chase Elliott’s #9 car is the co-favorite, so that also boosts our chances with this prop bet and we also have the #1 car of Kurt Busch.
Car Number of Race Winner –Odd (+200)
Car Number of Race Winner
Over 16.5 (-105)
Under 16.5 (-125)
Keselowski’s #2 car won on Sunday, but I see the “Over” hitting on Wednesday. Other than Kevin Harvick and Chase Elliott, the betting favorites are all over 16.5 with Kyle Busch (#18), Martin Truex Jr. (#19), Jimmie Johnson (#48), and Alex Bowman (#88).
Even my value plays of Joey Logano (#22) and Matt Kenseth (#42) are both over 16.5. I’m taking the Over for this prop bet, which offers solid value.
Car Number of Race Winner –Over 16.5 (-105)
Manufacturer of Race Winner
I was almost all-in on Toyota for Sunday, but it was Ford who snuck in and stole the checkered flag in the Coca-Cola 600. With that said, I don’t see Ford winning on Wednesday.
It’s going to come down to Chevy’s Chase Elliott, Alex Bowman and Jimmie Johnson versus Toyota’s Kyle Busch and Martin Truex Jr. And, I’m going with the Toyotas to win this prop bet since they didn’t win it on Sunday. This option also has a really nice payout.
Manufacturer of Race Winner –Toyota (+175)
Team of Race Winner
Joe Gibbs Racing (+175)
Hendrick Motor Sports (+180)
Team Penske (+350)
Stewart-Haas Racing (+700)
Chip Ganassi Racing (+1500)
Any Other Team (+2500)
Richard Childress racing (+2500)
Roush Fenway Racing (+6600)
JTG Daughtery Racing (+8000)
As you can see above, this race will come down to Hendrick’s Elliott, Bowman and Johnson versus JGR’s Busch and Truex Jr.
With that said, I like Joe Gibbs Racing to get the checkered flag in the Alsco Uniforms 500 race. I believe the victory will come either by Truex or Busch winning the race.
Team of Race Winner –Joe Gibbs Racing (+175)
Group Racing: Highest Finisher in Group
Kurt Busch (+170)
Tyler Reddick (+275)
Matt Kenseth (+285)
Matt DiBenedetto (+300)
Reddick finish 8th on Sunday in his first Charlotte race. It was an impressive performance for the young driver. DiBenedetto finished 17th and Kenseth finished 26th. Kurt Busch finished 7th on Sunday and I expect him to have another Top 10 finish in the Alsco Uniforms 500.
I really like Busch’s odds of +170 and I believe he will beat out the other three guys in this group due to having the experience and a better car.
Highest Finisher in Group –Kurt Busch (+170)
