If you can think of a more fun time of year to be a sports bettor, I’d love to hear it. Thursday’s loaded slate included no shortage of NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLB playoff action, and this weekend will bring more of the same. BetOnline’s oddsmakers are working hard to keep up with everything going on in the world of sports, and you have no shortage of options at your disposal as a bettor.
To make things even more enticing, BetOnline is offering a bundle of daily odds boosts worthy of your attention. Several major cities will have multiple teams in action on Friday night, with Los Angeles, Houston, and Boston taking center stage. Let’s take a look at daily odds boosts at BetOnline.ag and unearth some betting value.
Bruins, Celtics, and Red Sox All to Win (Was +300, Now +375)
The New England Patriots will play host to the New York Jets this weekend, but Boston sports fans have plenty to watch while they wait for Sunday’s kickoff. The city’s other three major sports franchises – the Bruins, Celtics, and Red Sox – will all be in action tonight. The Red Sox will look to avoid elimination against the Astros in the ALCS. The Bruins will travel to Buffalo to take on the Sabres, while the Celtics will welcome the Raptors to the Garden.
The Basketball and Hockey Squads Are Both in Favorable Spots
BetOnline has the Celts listed as 6.5-point favorites at home over a very young Toronto team. Boston fell in double-overtime to the Knicks on opening night, but there were plenty of positives to draw from that one.
Jaylen Brown looked like an absolute monster, while Robert Williams thrived in his role as the team’s new full-time starting center. The Raptors, meanwhile, will still be playing without Pascal Siakam after losing their season opener at Washington on Wednesday.
The Bruins are off to a 2-1 start with a win over the Stars and a loss to the Flyers on their resume to this point. BetOnline has Boston as a massive -210 moneyline favorite on the road tonight against a Sabres team that has been one of the NHL’s worst over the last handful of years. Buffalo went just 15-34-7 last year and finished near the bottom of the Eastern Conference yet again. The Sabres haven’t made the playoffs in a decade, though they have gotten off to a nice start this year. Buffalo is 3-0-0 after beating the Canadiens, Coyotes, and Canucks to begin the new campaign.
While the Celtics and Bruins both look like good bets to win, the Red Sox are facing a tougher situation. Boston will head back to Minute Maid Park to face the Astros as even-money moneyline underdogs. Boston does have an advantage on the mound with ace Nathan Eovaldi set to make his second start of the series, but he struggled against the Astros in a rare relief outing back in Game 4. I think the Astros are a good bet to close out the series in tonight’s Game 6, which makes the Boston odds boost look a little dicey at +375.
Astros, Stars, and Rockets All to Win (Was +480, Now +600)
BetOnline has this listed as a “Houston city booster,” yet it includes the Dallas Stars. Alrighty then!
The Astros will take center stage tonight, as they’re just one win away from yet another World Series appearance. BetOnline has Houston listed as a -110 favorite to clinch the AL pennant at home tonight behind starter Luis Garcia. Garcia has struggled since the postseason got underway, but I do think the Astros will find a way to get the job done tonight.
The Rockets won’t win many games this season, but they do have a rare opportunity to do so tonight. The Rockets will welcome the Oklahoma City Thunder to H-Town as three-point favorites. Houston was absolutely thrashed by Minnesota in an embarrassing 124-106 defeat in their opener, but the Thunder may be one of the few teams worse than the Rockets this season. Oklahoma City didn’t have much more success, as they went into Salt Lake City and got blasted, 107-86, by Utah on Wednesday night.
These may well be the two worst teams in the NBA this season, so this game is a total toss-up. I do think the Rockets have more on-paper talent, though, and perhaps their home-court advantage will prove to be the difference.
The Stars are 2-2 to begin the year, with all four of their games coming on the road. Dallas picked up impressive wins over the Rangers and Penguins with a couple of losses to the Bruins and Senators sandwiched in between. Rick Bowness’ squad will welcome the LA Kings to town in their home opener at the American Airlines Center tonight. BetOnline has Dallas as a solid -150 moneyline favorite in this one. The Kings were one of the worst teams in the sport last year, and they’ve gotten off to an inauspicious 1-2 start.
Lakers and Kings Both to Win (Was +337, Now +425)
We know what the LA Kings are up against. Los Angeles lost its lone road game of the young season, and tonight they’ll be dealing with a racuous crowd in Dallas for the Stars’ home opener. The Kings do have a plus-2 goal differential despite their 1-2 start, but there isn’t much reason to believe this team will be much better than it was last year. Dallas, meanwhile, is just two years removed from an appearance in the Stanley Cup Finals. That may have been a fluke, but I’m still skeptical of the Kings’ chances to go on the road and pick up a win in this game.
The Lakers will look to get into the win column for the first time tonight after dropping their opener to Golden State on Tuesday. LeBron James and co. will play host to a Suns team that lost at home to the Nuggets on Wednesday. Phoenix got the better of LA the last time these teams met in the first round of last year’s playoffs, but the Lakers are much healthier now than they were back then.
🚨 Playoff Rematch 🚨
▪️ Met in 1st round of last postseason ▪️ CP3: 7 points from 20,000 for his career ▪️ LBJ: 34 PTS in first game of Year 19
However, the Suns do have an edge when it comes to continuity. Phoenix is essentially returning the same team that nearly won a title earlier this summer, while the Lakers have a slew of new faces. Incorporating the likes of Russell Westbrook and Carmelo Anthony into this team was always going to take time, and things looked rather clunky against Golden State. The Lakers are actually one-point favorites at home tonight, but there may be plenty of pro-Lakers bias baked into that line.
Westbrook Over 11.5 Rebounds & Lakers Win (Was +256, Now +325)
Westbrook was only tangentially involved in LA’s opening-night loss to the Warriors earlier this week. The former league MVP did log 35 minutes, but he was held to just eight points, five rebounds, and four assists on brutal 4-for-13 shooting from the field. LeBron James and Anthony Davis paced LA with 11 rebounds apiece, while Dwight Howard grabbed six off the bench.
Clearly, Westbrook’s offensive role is a work-in-progress. There are only so many basketballs to go around in this offense, and James and Davis should be priorities. That leaves Westbrook on the fringe by default. He is capable of contributing in other areas, of course. Westbrook has averaged at least 10 rebounds per game four times in his career, including a career-best 11.5 last year as a member of the Wizards.
New story: Frank Vogel says it will be an “easy fix” to integrate Russell Westbrook. L.A. would like that, having gotten some more bad backcourt injury news on Thursday https://t.co/Kk0k0H1CqD
However, 11.5 rebounds in tonight’s game sounds like a lot to expect considering he hauled in just five caroms on opening night. Rebounding shouldn’t be a problem for a team with as much size as the Lakers have, so they don’t necessarily need their starting point guard to aggressively crash the boards. Russ is always happy to pad his own stats, but this one feels awfully dicey.
What’s the Best Bet?
Even though the Stars aren’t a Houston team, I think the Houston odds boost looks like the best value here. You’re getting the longest odds of any option at +600, yet I think it’s actually the prop bet with the best chance of hitting.
I like the Astros to close out the Red Sox tonight, which immediately takes the Boston option (+375) off the board. I also think the Stars will pick up a win in their home opener over the Kings, which eliminates the LA prop (+425) as a possibility. I’m skeptical enough of the Lakers’ chances to beat the Suns without even considering the idea of Westbrook grabbing a minimum of 12 rebounds in the game. I don’t think the +325 odds on that prop account for how unlikely both outcomes are to hit.
So, depending on the trio of Texas teams to get the job done tonight looks like the best way to go. You’re getting excellent bang for your buck here on the Astros, Stars, and Rockets all to win at +600.
