Betting For The Cycle – 2019 MLB Playoff Push Edition

As the calendar rolls over to September, the Major League Baseball season is winding down, but the push to the postseason is just heating up. With 10 playoff spots on the line between the National League and American League, a solid 16 or 17 teams still remain in contention. This week’s edition of “Betting For The Cycle” focuses on four weekend series featuring eight of those teams.

First, an American League Wild Card battle at Tropicana Field, as the Tampa Bay Rays host the Cleveland Indians for three games. As of this writing, the Indians hold the first Wild Card spot in the AL, with the Rays just a game back of the second Wild Card spot.

The team holding that second spot in the American League Wild Card race is the Oakland Athletics. While the Rays and Indians go head to head, the A’s face the challenge of taking on the New York Yankees in The Bronx. The American League East leaders lost to the Athletics in Oakland just one week ago and will be looking for a bit of revenge when Oakland comes to Yankee Stadium.

In the National League, there are seven teams within six games of the Wild Card spot (again, as of this writing). The Chicago Cubs are three games back of the Washington Nationals for the top spot, but hold the second spot with a two-game cushion. This weekend, the Cubs welcome the Milwaukee Brewers to Wrigley Field. The Brewers might have two teams between them and Chicago, but Milwaukee is just three games back of the Cubs’ Wild Card spot.

Also, this weekend, the New York Mets battle the Philadelphia Phillies. The Phillies are two games behind Chicago, with the Mets just one game back of them. New York has been absolutely on fire since the All-Star break, with the Atlanta Braves the only team that’s been able to slow them down. Should Philadelphia be able to pick up the series win, this series could provide the Phillies with some much-needed breathing room from their division rivals.

Drew Goldfarb, Taylor Smith, and Jim Beviglia break it all down for you in this week’s “Betting For The Cycle.” To get our betting picks for the series winners for all four matchups, check out the video at the top of this page.
