Betting for the Cycle – Red Sox vs Rays, Astros’ 300-Strikeout Aces, Flaherty vs Darvish and More!

Welcome to one of the final editions of “Betting For The Cycle” for 2019. The Major League Baseball regular season is in the home stretch, and a number of teams have already clinched playoff berths. Others, meanwhile, have started to look ahead to 2020. There are still games to be played and bets to be made, though, so join Drew Goldfarb, Jim Beviglia, and Taylor Smith as they break it all down from a betting perspective.

We kick things off this week with a battle between a couple of also-rans. The Seattle Mariners, who are bringing up the rear in the AL West, will visit the Orioles, who have last place all to themselves in the AL East. Which of these bottom-feeders will come away with the victory in the three-game weekend series?

Next up, we have an AL East clash between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Boston Red Sox. The Rays are still fighting for a Wild Card spot, while the Red Sox’s hopes of defending last year’s World Series title are all but dead. Can Boston play spoiler for Tampa Bay this weekend? Or will the Rays put the dagger through the Red Sox’ collective heart?

The AL Cy Young race will likely come down to a pair of teammates. Gerrit Cole and Justin Verlander have been two of the most dominant starters in all of baseball this season, and the two have the chance to become the first set of teammates since Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling back in 2002 to strike out at least 300 hitters apiece. Cole is currently leading the way, while Verlander needs at least 17 over his final two starts to get to 300. Will they achieve the rare feat together?

Lastly, we have a daily fantasy sports matchup between a couple of NL Central aces. The Cubs and Cardinals will get together for a big four-game series this weekend. Jack Flaherty is slated to start Thursday’s game for the Cardinals, while Yu Darvish will toe the rubber for the Cubs in the finale on Sunday. Which player will enjoy the better outing from a fantasy perspective?

That’ll do it for this week’s edition of the show. Check back next week for the newest episode of “Betting For The Cycle,” and subscribe to the Odds On Favorites YouTube channel for the latest content from the team here at
