Minute Read

The Chongqing Major is the first Major tier tournament of the new year (and second in a competitive year). Apart from The Bucharest Minor, no other tournament happens before it. This piece of fact gives the Chongqing Major a special feel; you can technically say that the Dota 2 competitive season (of a new year) starts with it.

This year’s Chongqing Major will pin some of Dota 2’s most competitive teams against each other. However, it’s not just a top-team affair; some newer teams that have yet to make a name for themselves will also make an appearance. The Chongqing Major is ImbaTV’s first overall Major in 2019 and it marks the first challenge teams must face in order to achieve glory.

There is plenty to go through regarding info but we’ll start off this Chongqing Major Preview with some valuable information to those who have a liking for Esports betting.

Where to Bet on the Chongqing Major

Esports betting enthusiasts will absolutely love this tournament. The Chongqing Major has always provided a not-so-healthy dose of action (and we mean that in a good way) and this year appears the same. As far as the betting itself is concerned, you really should start looking at some reputable Esports bookmakers.

Everyone needs at least one trusty Esports bookie that offers impressive Dota 2 odds, right?

In any case, take a look at a couple of the ones we listed below – pick any one (or all of them for that matter) and see for yourself. Dota 2 betting galore!

Besides, The Chongqing Major is a pretty big tournament all things considered. A Major-tier tournament in other games is usually prestigious, but not so large. Well, let’s say that the Chongqing Major (and Dota 2) don’t like following the rules.

Don’t believe us? Try spectating a couple of the upcoming games and not experiencing a constant adrenaline rush! It’s nigh impossible!

Speaking of games, let’s talk expand on the Chongqing Major preview and see what it’s all about.

Interesting Facts

As with all Esports tournaments, the Chongqing Major has a personality as well. It might not be the biggest tournament in Dota 2 (that honor belongs to the International), but it is one of the most loved. Now, what’s so interesting about it? Here’s the deal:

  • Live streaming is available for all Chongqing Major games, but watching the event live is not. In fact, only the final three days of the tournament are to be played live; in front of a crowd.
  • The Chongqing Major grants the winner $350,000 and 4,950 DPC Points. The full prize pool is $1,000,000 and the number of DPC points up for grabs is 15,000.
  • Ten of the Top 12 Dota 2 teams (according to the DPC standings) are attending the tournament. The remaining 6 have a chance to move up into the Top 12 and displace some other teams. This is important because DPC positioning near the end of the competitive means either placement in The International 9 or lack thereof.
  • The tournament lasts for nearly 10 days and there are 16 teams. If you ever wanted loads of Dota 2 action – this is the perfect opportunity!

Tournament Format

Continuing with our Chonging Major preview, the format is a must-know if you want to understand the tournament fully. And there’s a lot to study so pay close attention – it might get confusing if you don’t!

So first up, we had the qualifiers that are now done and dusted. The participating Chongqing Major teams are known and one of those was the winner of The Bucharest Minor (EHOME). Moving on, we’ve got the group stage.

Group Stage

  • The group stage lasts from the 19th of January to the 20th of January this year.
  • The teams are divided into 4 groups of 4 and all matches are Bo3. That’s a lot of game!
  • Features a double-elimination (GSL style) bracket.
  • Two of the best teams from each group advance to the upper bracket of the Main Event.
  • The remaining two teams advance to the lower bracket of the Main Event.

On to the Playoffs!

  • The Playoffs are to be held from the 22nd of January to the 27th of January.
  • The Playoffs feature a double-elimination
  • Lower bracket Round 1 games are Bo1.
  • Grand Finals are Bo5.
  • All other games are Bo3

The Chongqing Major Teams Overview

As said previously in this Chongqing Major preview, there are 16 participating teams. It’s even difficult having a favorite team when you know this many good teams are playing.

Here are a couple of notable teams that are expected to achieve a high finish (and maybe even win the tournament itself).

EHOME is a team with quite the Esports pedigree. They’ve been active since 2010 and have went through many roster changes. EHOME’s participation in the Chongqing Major was cemented after they were declared winners of the Bucharest Minor (which brings direct qualification for the Chongqing Major to the winning team).

EHOME is expected to make some kind of result with a rejuvenated squad, but they will have their work cut out for them.

Team Liquid

Team Liquid has been a staple name in the Esports world for quite some time now. They’ve won The International 2017 and two consecutive EPICENTER tournaments. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

This team is looking exceptionally strong in 2019, and with the likes of MATUMBAMAN, KuroKy, and MinD_ContRoL – three veterans that have been in the team for 3 (going on 4) years – Team Liquid seems set to take the grand prize.

Evil Geniuses

No matter what game you mention, whether it’s League of Legends or Dota 2, Evil Geniuses always ring a bell. A team that has seen lots of success over the years, EG are interested in one thing and one thing only, and that’s to win. Consistent results and an International win in 2015 against CDEC Gaming have made Evil Geniuses into somewhat of a gaming trademark.

And hey, Arteezy is there so yeah!

Outright Betting on the Chongqing

Outright betting is something that is almost always a part of Esports betting. Outrights are interesting because you take a calculated risk and, if you’ve done your homework and researched most if not all of the participating teams, the chances for a win are larger. But if you missed something, you might not achieve what you were after.

This is why outrights are so inviting to Esports bettors around the gaming world. As far as outright betting on the Chongqing Major is concerned, you want to use the best Esports bookies for it. That’s why you should use our suggested sites mentioned above!

And with that, our Chongqing Major preview has concluded.
