On Sunday, May 27th, NASCAR’s 59th edition of the Coca Cola 600 will take place live from the Charlotte Motor Speedway (CMS) in Concord, North Carolina. At 600 miles, this is the longest race of NASCAR’s season. In 1974, NASCAR moved the race to the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend as a way to compete against the Indy 500. Since then, it’s become an annual holiday tradition. In recent years, they pushed back the race in order not to go head-to-head with the 500 and to allow any driver who wanted to try and compete in both epic races.

This year’s race has a bit of controversy heading into it. NASCAR held their All-Star race at the CMS last weekend and it was an exciting contest. They unveiled a different aero package for the race, which led to an entertaining race with plenty of competition. Arguably one of the best All-Star races in recent memory. Unfortunately, NASCAR is planning on going with the regular aero package for the Coca Cola 600 and it has both diehard fans and pundits questioning NASCAR’s decision.

Here are the top sites we recommend for betting on the 2018 Coca Cola 600:

Other storylines heading into this race are:

  • Can Jimmy Johnson tie Darrell Waltrip with 5 career wins?
  • Will Kevin Harvick keep his hot streak going?
  • Will any of the young guns step up and win NASCAR’s historic race?
  • Can Ford win and end their 16 year slump?

This year’s Coca Cola 600 will certainly be an exciting one, especially if you are looking to bet on the race. However, before you do, let’s take a look at the best Coca Cola 600 betting sites, driver odds, various wagers, betting tips, my pick to win and more:

Coca Cola 600 Bets and Tips

With the odds set, it’s time to examine which drivers have a realistic shot at winning, where the value is, a potential longshot and a few other interesting Coca Cola 600 bets:

Here are the Top 5 favorites based on their betting odds:

Kevin Harvick +250

Right now, Harvick is the hottest driver in NASCAR. He’s won nearly half of the races with 5 wins out of 12 races and he’s coming off last week’s All-Star race victory. Harvick has also led the most laps by nearly doubling the next person at 820 to 498. He has 6 stage wins, 24 playoff points and is the odds on favorite to win this race. Let’s not forget, he’s also a 2-time Coca Cola 600 winner.

Kyle Busch +500

Kyle Bush leads the points standings and has 3 wins already on the season. He also has 2 stage wins, 17 playoff points and has led the second most laps at 498. Although he’s never won the Coca Cola 600, Busch is a threat to win at any track. He’s had a rough last month of racing, so look for Rowdy to break out of his funk and make some noise at Charlotte.

Martin Truex Jr +500

The reigning, defending series champion sits 8th in the points standings and 5th in the playoff standings. He’s won just 1 race so far, but has 7 top 5 finishes including 2 out of the last 3 races. Truex has also won the Coca Cola 600 on one occasion back in 2016.

Kyle Larson +800

Larson is one of those young guns that everyone was talking about at the beginning of the season, Kyle currently sits 11th in the points standings and 12th in the playoff standings. He’s had 4 Top 5 finishes so far including a strong 4th place finish at Kansas two weeks ago when he led 101 laps.

Brad Keselowski +1200

The former NASCAR champ currently sits 4th in the points standings and 7th in the playoff standings. He’s only tallied 2 Top 5 finishes, but has a decent shot at Charlotte. He won the fall race here back in 2013 and has 4 stage wins on the season. That’s good for second overall in stage wins behind only Kevin Harvick.

The Value

There is a good chance that one of the favorites will win this race. But, that doesn’t stop us from looking at some of the best value bets in the race. And, to me, there’s no greater value than the following two drivers:

Jimmie Johnson +3000

Johnson is a 4-time Coca Cola 600 winner. He’s looking to tie Darrell Waltrip with 5 all-time wins at this historic racetrack. Johnson currently sits 12th in points and 13th in the playoff standings. Jimmy has had an up and down season so far, and hasn’t even led a lap this year. However, you can’t count out the 7-time series champ at this track. With these odds, he’s worth a look.

Kurt Busch +3000

Just like Johnson, Kurt Busch is a former series champion and a former Coca Cola 600 winner as he won back in 2010. Busch currently sits 5th in points and 8th in the playoff standings. He’s had a better season so far, compared to Johnson. Kurt has two Top 5 finishes, six Top 10 finishes, two stage wins and has led 217 laps. His best finish this year, has come at Talladega last month when he finished 2nd.

The Darkhorse

We all love the longshots in races. And, my longshot pick for this race is Matt Kenseth at +7500 odds. Matt returned from retirement at Kansas two weeks ago and finished 35th. Last weekend, at the All-Star race in Charlotte, he won the pole, but finished 14th. However, it was a strong showing for the former series champ. Kenseth also won the Coca Cola 600 back in 2000.

Driver Matchups

As we mentioned above, driver matchups are fun Coca Cola 600 wagers where you pick which driver you think will finish higher in the matchup. The following is a few matchups that I like courtesy of 5Dimes:

Kurt Busch -130 vs Aric Almirola +100

As mentioned, Busch is one of my value picks. I really like his chances to finish strong at this race. Almirola sits 10th in points and 11th in the playoff standings, three spots behind Busch. Almirola has led 342 laps this year and 5 Top Ten finishes. I like Busch in this matchup due to experience and more success this year.

Joey Logano -135 vs Clint Bowyer +105 & Joey Logano -135 vs Erik Jones +105

Other than Harvick, Truex, and Busch, there’s nobody better than Logano. He currently sits 2nd in points and 3rd in the playoff standings with 1 win this season. He’s finished in the Top 10 in almost every race, but two. He’s had four Top 5 finishes in the last 4 races, finishing no worse than 4th.

I like Logano’s chances to finish higher than Clint Bowyer and Erik Jones. Bowyer is 6th in points, 4th in playoff standings, and has a win on the year. However, Clint has had an ugly last month with 19th, 15th, 2nd and 31st place finishes.  Jones is 13th in points, 14th in playoff standings, and has 5 Top Ten finishes so far. Jones has two Top 7 finishes the last two weeks, but also has 18th, 39th and 13th place finishes just prior.

Jimmie Johnson -110 vs Daniel Suarez -120

You can’t count out Johnson at the Coca Cola 600. The 4-time winner is too good at this track to be overlooked. I like this matchup because Jimmy sits 13th in the playoff standings while Suarez is on the outside looking in at 21st. Over the last 5 weeks, Johnson has an average finish of 10.4 and Suarez has an average finish of 10.6. This is a good indicator as to why these two are matched up together. However, Johnson’s experience versus Suarez’s budding talent makes me believe that JJ will win this matchup.

The Checkered Flag

The Coca Cola 600 adds to Sunday’s overall excitement and holiday weekend fun. Get your racing friends together and watch both the Indy 500 and the Coca Cola 600 while having a BBQ and hopefully winning some money.

My pick to win this race is Kevin Harvick, but I love the value in Johnson and Kurt Busch. Harvick has won at Charlotte 3 times in 34 starts with eight Top 5 and 16 Top 10 finishes. He’s red hot right now and there’s no reason to think he won’t keep that momentum going all the way into the Coca Cola 600 winner’s circle.
