We have a two-man booth on the Odds On Favorites Podcast this week. Drew Goldfarb was joined by Taylor Smith, while Rick Rockwell had the day off. While they were short-handed, Drew and Taylor still did their best to break down a number of different betting options available to the betting public this week.
Robot Umpires in Baseball
They started with baseball, where the Independent Atlantic League has implemented an automated balls-and-strikes tracking system designed to eliminate controversy when it comes to strike zones. Should Major League Baseball move to adopt the system if it proves successful during its trial run? If so, what betting implications might it have, and would it affect the way the game is played?
Next up, they discussed whether the reigning World Series champion Boston Red Sox will be able to successfully navigate a tough stretch of the schedule. Boston will face the AL East-leading Yankees for eight games over the span of the next week-and-a-half, with another crucial three-game series with the Tampa Bay Rays in between. Do the Red Sox’s hopes for a World Series repeat this season hinge on this crucial portion of the schedule?
Big 12 College Football Betting Preview
We’re nearing the end of the summer, which can only mean one thing: It’s almost football season. The 2019 college football campaign actually gets underway in August, and the guys will be going conference-by-conference, breaking it all down until kickoff on opening weekend. This week, they tackle the Big 12, where four-time reigning conference champions Oklahoma will be looking to make it five straight this season. Can Texas finally rise up and reclaim the conference, or will a surprise team challenge for the title? Also, will the Big 12 be represented in this year’s College Football Playoff?
FIBA World Cup Betting Tips
The flurry of free agency activity has died down in the NBA. But before the beginning of the new season in the fall, the world’s basketball powerhouses will convene on China later this summer for the latest installment of the FIBA World Cup. The United States won the last edition in Spain in 2014, but this year’s team will look quite a bit different. We have already seen a number of high-profile names like James Harden, Damian Lillard, and Anthony Davis withdraw from the festivities, so the American team looks a bit watered down. Should the Americans still be heavy betting favorites? Or will an up-and-comer like Serbia or Canada make some noise?
UFC 240: Main & Co-Main Events
Finally, UFC returns to pay-per-view this week with UFC 240, which will go down in Edmonton. We have a couple of heavy betting favorites in Cris Cyborg (vs. Felicia Spencer) and Max Holloway (vs. Frankie Edgar) in action. Are either of the massive favorites worth a wager? Or should you take a flier on one of the underdogs? Both provide exceptional upside according to the odds, but there’s a reason Cyborg and “Blessed” are such heavy favorites.
