Politics Betting: Will Omarosa Release More Trump Tapes?

It’s tough to keep up with the whirlwind of news generated by the Donald Trump-led White House. New stories seem to pop up on a daily basis, and there has been no shortage of scandal, either. The administration has seen a ton of turnover over its first year-and-a-half, and we will surely see even more before the term is up in 2020.

One of the most noteworthy recent departures was Omarosa Manigault Newman, who was fired from her job as a White House staffer back in January. While others among Trump’s staff and cabinet have resigned quietly, Omarosa’s departure was quite a bit more noisy and acrimonious. The Secret Service didn’t even deny the reports that Omarosa had to be forcibly removed from the White House grounds back on December 20 of last year.

After being terminated, Omarosa went on a press tour during which she revealed that she would eventually release a tell-all book detailing her year spent as a part of Trump’s staff, as well as her time on his campaign leading up to the election. Omarosa claimed to have tapes of Trump and other members of the White House, and we heard the first tape on Meet the Press back in mid-August. The tape revealed a conversation between Omarosa and Chief of Staff John Kelly, during which Kelly informed her that she was being let go.

Omarosa’s book, called Unhinged, was released on August 14. In the book, she details why she believes the president is a racist and accuses him of having used the N-word, among other things. The White House has refuted these claims publicly, with Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders saying the book is “riddled with lies and false accusations.” Omarosa clearly has an axe to grind with Trump, and there’s really no telling how much of her account is accurate.

Omarosa isn’t generating the majority of the headlines this week, but she is still on the fringe of the news. MyBookie has several Omarosa-related entertainment props posted, so let’s run through them, shall we?

Will Omarosa Claim to Have Another Tape of President Trump?

  • Yes -140
  • No +110

There were a ton of splashy news items to come down on Tuesday. Trump’s former campaign manager, Paul Manafort, was found guilty by a jury on 8 different felonies. The president’s former personal attorney, Michael Cohen, also pleaded guilty to a number of crimes, implicating Trump in the process. Since both of these stories came down within about 30 minutes of each other, the fact that Omarosa went on MSNBC Tuesday night and showed a video that she had recorded of Trump largely flew under the radar.

The video was nothing special. It was just an iPhone video of Cohen boarding Trump’s private jet back in 2016. Trump has publicly attempted to minimize the role Cohen played in the campaign, but Omarosa released the tape with the idea of proving that Cohen played a larger role than Trump has let on. During the reveal, she told MSNBC’s Chris Matthews, “He was very involved. Cohen was impacting the decisions the president made as well as the president telling him to fix things.” She added, “This is the beginning of the end for Donald Trump. He knows that the person who knows everything about him, about his relationships with these women and others that people may not know about will come to light.”

Last week it was reported that Omarosa has “hundreds” of other tapes of the audio and video variety. The 44-year-old also claims to have text messages and emails that support some of the claims she made in her aforementioned book. In addition to the aforementioned tape featuring Kelly, Omarosa has also released an audio call featuring Trump himself as well as separate phone conversation with Lara Trump, in which Eric Trump’s wife offered Omarosa money to stay quiet.

There is no doubt Omarosa will claim to have more tapes, so “yes” at -140 seems like a stone-cold lock here.

Will Omarosa Run for President in 2020?

  • Yes +620
  • No -800

The field for the 2020 presidential election is expected to be a crowded one. With so much anti-Trump feeling out there, there are likely to be several challengers that step up on the Democratic side of things. Depending on what happens between now and next summer, it’s even possible we could see a few Republicans go rogue and try to take him down, too.

While several established politicians (Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Kamala Harris) may line up to try and dethrone Trump, there’s also a decent chance we get some non-politicians to enter the fray. Michael Avenatti, the attorney to Stormy Daniels, is reportedly seriously considering throwing his hat into the ring. We’ve also heard Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban toy with the idea of a run for the Oval Office in the past.

Omarosa has some political experience and she has spent plenty of time on TV, so she essentially can combine the two as a part of her potential candidacy. Before being a part of the Trump administration, Omarosa, a former Democrat, worked in the office of former Vice President Al Gore in the ’90s. Running for president certainly takes some ego, and we know Omarosa isn’t lacking when it comes to ego. She was the primary villain during her appearances on “The Apprentice” in the last decade, which is how she parlayed herself into a gig in the Trump administration in the first place.

Omarosa seems to have taken a seat on the anti-Trump bandwagon, so who’s to say she won’t try and join the party in a couple of years? It’s tough to imagine her potential candidacy gaining a whole lot of steam, of course, but all it takes for this bet to pay off is Omarosa launching a campaign. It’s not like she has to win.

I think there is decent value here at +620. Omarosa is pretty clearly somebody that enjoys the spotlight, so what better way to get more coverage than by running for the highest elected office in the land? You can make bank on this bet if it hits at +620, so I say it’s worth a flier. Don’t go all-in, obviously.

Will Omarosa Go to Jail Before 2019?

  • Yes +750
  • No -1000

After Omarosa released her first tape featuring John Kelly, President Trump reportedly urged Attorney General Jeff Sessions to have her jailed. While recording a conversation in the White House is a big no-no, it’s not necessarily illegal. In Washington D.C., it is also not illegal to record a conversation, even if the other person in the convo is unaware it’s being recorded.

Former federal prosecutor David S. Weinstein told The Wrap, “She [Omarosa] is not going to jail. She’s not facing any charges, the reason being that Washington D.C. is a one-party consent state. There is no criminal statute that she is violating.”

Omarosa’s decision to bring a recording device into a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility violates security protocols, but that is also not a criminal offense.

So, no, Omarosa will not be put behind bars as a result of her decision to secretly record conversations in the White House. She could always go to jail for something else (traffic violation, etc.) before 2019, but we obviously can’t predict such things.

Will Omarosa Get a Reality Show Before 2019?

  • Yes -165
  • No +135

As mentioned previously, Omarosa is no stranger to reality TV. She made a name for herself on the first season of the Trump-run show “The Apprentice” in 2004. She then reprised her role as a villain on “Celebrity Apprentice” in 2008. In 2013, she appeared on “All-Star Celebrity Apprentice,” and this past February she was a cast member on “Celebrity Big Brother.”

Omarosa has reportedly attempted to go on CNN in order to promote her new book, but Don Lemon reportedly turned down the chance to grant her one of the first interviews. So, if she’s eventually going to be seeking a gig as a political pundit, it sounds like CNN wouldn’t have much interest.

Will Omarosa become a reality show host before the year ends? If so, time is running out. The calendar is about to flip to September, and just about all TV schedules for the fall season are already in place.

I suppose she doesn’t necessarily need to be made the show’s host in order for this bet to cash, but if she does appear on a reality show I imagine it won’t happen before 2019 comes around. I like the value on “No” at +135, so I think that’s your bet here.

Will Omarosa Get Divorced Before 2019?

  • Yes +170
  • No -200

This is a weird one. Omarosa was married to Aaron Stallworth from 2000 until their divorce in 2005. Back in 2010, it was revealed that she was in a relationship with noted actor Michael Clarke Duncan. In 2012, she found Duncan in the midst of cardiac arrest and was unable to resuscitate him. He unfortunately passed away a few months later.

In 2017, Omarosa married John Allen Newman at a Trump hotel in Washington. Newman is the Senior Pastor of The Sanctuary at Mt. Cavalry, which is a church in Jacksonville, Florida. We have no reason at all to believe that her marriage is on the rocks at this point, so it seems doubtful that she gets divorced after just a year of marriage.

“No” at -200 is the heavy favorite, and with good reason.
