On July 4th, Netflix will release the highly anticipated third season of its popular show Stranger Things. Season 2 finished up roughly 20 months ago and fans have been going crazy for new episodes. Since its debut in 2016, Stranger Things has become a pop culture phenomenon as fans immerse themselves in the sights, sounds, and aura of the 1980s. Additionally, viewers can feast on sci-fi or supernatural storylines that leave one feeling fuller than a Thanksgiving feast.
The popularity of Netflix’s hit show hasn’t gone unnoticed with online betting sites. In fact, the best entertainment betting sites have released prop bets for the upcoming season of Stranger Things. So, with our psychokinetic abilities, let’s take a look at these prop bets and see if we can turn some wagers into winners.
How Many New Numbers Will Be Introduced in Season 3?
Over 2.5 (+160)
Under 2.5 (-200)
One of the main characters of the show is Eleven also known as “El” or “Jane Hopper.” For those of you that have forgotten who she is, Eleven is the young girl with psychokinetic abilities and Mike Wheeler’s object of affection.
In Season 1, we see Eleven appear out of nowhere and steal food from a local diner. At the same time, Will Byers is taken, and the entire season turns into a mystery of who this girl is, what her powers do, and the connection between her and Byers. However, it wasn’t until Season 2 that we learned more details about El’s past as well as the other children that were potentially experimented on.
In Season 2, we were also officially introduced to Eight who turned out to be the older sister of El. Eight, also known as Kali, was experimented on and has special abilities as well. However, her abilities weren’t the same as El’s. Kali has the power to make people see illusions.
Kali had a significant role in Season 2 and in El’s life during the fall of 1984. With that said, it’s unclear whether or not she will be back for Season 3.
After viewing Netflix’s official trailers for the upcoming season, Kali doesn’t appear in any of them. Additionally, these trailers don’t give any indication that we will see other sci-fi siblings of El and Kali. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean we won’t see a Nine, Ten, or Twelve, it just means that the trailers don’t point in that direction.
As for this wager, online betting sites like MyBookie firmly believe that we won’t see many other “numbers” if any at all. With an Over/Under set at 2.5, it’s hard to imagine we will get three new “numbers” this year. If anything, Kali will make an appearance in this season either to help El and her friends fight the Mind Flayer or she has a small appearance on the show with her sister.
There’s a popular fan theory that we could see another number who is actually under the mind control of the Mind Flayer in Season 3. Either way, I don’t see three new numbers debuting this season. For this bet, go with the Under.
Stranger Things Bet: Under 2.5 new numbers (-200)
Number of Episodes Eleven Will Have a Nosebleed
Over 3.5 (+110)
Under 3.5 (-140)
For those who have watched the first two seasons of this show, you have become familiar with El’s nosebleeds. In fact, one of the trailers for Season 2 was primarily focused on El’s nose bleeding. In the trailer for Season 3, which you can view in the video at the beginning of the article, we see at least one scene with El’s nose bleeding.
Before exploring the Stranger Things betting odds, let’s examine why Eleven experiences nosebleeds. Apparently, these nosebleeds are a side effect of when El uses her superpowers. Many fans have speculated as to why this happens. One major theory is that El’s brain is under an incredible amount of strain when she uses her psychokinetic powers. This strain causes her to sweat, have nosebleeds, and look exhausted.
There’s been a great deal of debate over whether she was born with these powers or if she received them during the experimentations. Either way, her body is unable to handle the sheer magnitude of these powers. That brings me to the question of whether or not we even know what her full powers are. Can she become more powerful as she grows up?
If you are wondering how they do these creepy nosebleeds, El reveals the secrets behind the blood. Milly Bobby Brown, the 15-year-old English actress who plays Eleven, recently appeared on The Late Late Show with James Corden and talked about the nosebleeds:
“It’s just a pot of blood and it’s got a squeezy bottle. Then you just lift up your head, you squeeze it in and then whenever you feel it, I put my head down and I say, ‘OK guys, everybody ready … roll camera, action!’ and then wait. And then it comes, and if it doesn’t, then I’ve screwed up my timing.”
Like with Season 1, this third season will have eight episodes. So, this Stranger Things prop bet is basically asking whether or not El will have nosebleeds in at least half of the season. If you were laughing at this prop bet earlier, then you should realize by now that El’s leaky nostrils have become a primary trait of hers.
I love the value on the Over at +110 odds. Not only do I think these odds are worth taking, but I also feel that we will see El having a nosebleed in at least four episodes this season. From what we can see in the trailers, I wouldn’t be surprised if El has nosebleeds in every episode. Although the odds favor the Under, the Over is the smart play here.
Stranger Things Bet: Over 3.5 episodes (+110)
Will Season 4 Be the Last Season of Stranger Things?
The mere thought of Stranger Things coming to an end is sad. To think that it could end after Season 4 gives us diehard fans nosebleeds. Could we at least go until the kids head off to college?
The aging of the child actors is a big reason why the show could end sooner than later. In fact, the stars of the show recently commented on when they thought Stranger Things should end.
Noah Schnapp, the 14-year-old actor who plays Will Byers, believes that the show should end after five seasons: “Probably like five [seasons].”
Finn Wolfhard, the 16-year-old Canadian actor who plays Mike Wheeler, wasn’t sure if it should be one or two more seasons:
“I think we definitely need one more to tie it all up. Either one or two more, for sure. At least one more to tie it up.”
Lastly, Gaten Matarazzo, the 16-year-old American actor who plays Dustin Henderson, gave the best answer of them all when he expressed that the show should go on until there’s no more story:
“I think we should stop whenever the story feels like it needs to be completed. I don’t think any season should be pushed. If there’s no more story, there’s no more story.”
I couldn’t agree more! There’s no need to end a show just because of a numbered season. With digital streaming, platforms like Netflix don’t have to answer to advertisers and networks. As long as the platform feels a show is worth continuing, based on metrics like social media trends and viewership, then there’s no reason to cancel it.
Stranger Things is the most popular original digital streaming show ever. Season 2’s premiere brought in over 15 million viewers. When digging further into viewership data, Nielsen released some numbers that backed up the show’s popularity. According to Nielsen’s research data, each episode drew in roughly 4 million viewers on the weekend of its release. Over 360,000 viewers watched all nine episodes of Season 2 within 24 hours of its release.
Is There Already a Season 4?Shawn Levy, producer of the show, has already confirmed that there will be a fourth season. However, Netflix has yet to officially announce this. But it’s only a matter of time. I believe they’re just waiting for Season 3 to come out, see the incredible response, and then announce that there will be a Season 4.
It should be noted that Levy’s comments about a fourth season came in an interview from April 2018:
“I mean I will say we have a good sense of stuff that happens in Season Four. Season Four is definitely happening. There’s very much the possibility of a season beyond that one, that’s currently undecided.”
Levy’s comments that there could be a fifth season created a massive buzz within the Stranger Things universe. And it’s what this ST prop bet is listing odds for, whether or not there will be a fifth season.
Whenever Netflix confirms a fourth season, we can expect production to begin within a few months after. Season 2 was released around Halloween of 2017, and production for Season 3 didn’t begin until April 2018. They wrapped up filming last November. So, the show will need a good six months to film a fourth season. With that in mind, I wouldn’t expect Season 4 to come out until late 2020 at the earliest. We could be seeing another October release.
If all goes well, and we get a fifth season, then the first half of 2022 seems like a realistic timeframe for Netflix to release it. Of course, all of the main child actors and actresses will be over 18 years old by then. With their aging in real life, the show might have to work their magic in making the kids look younger or they could even progress the story timeline a few years forward to account for the actors’ real age.
For this bet, I’m going with the “No” option at -150 odds. I do not believe Season 4 will be the last. At least, I hope it won’t be the last. But based on the actors’ ages and the fact that a fourth season wouldn’t even come out until late 2020, the “Yes” option is worthy of a flier.
I’m going with my heart over my head here and taking “No” for this prop bet. Let’s hope for at least two more seasons.
Stranger Things Bet: No (-150)
Any Other Stranger Things Bets to Look Out For?
Prior to Season 2, Bovada released a popular Stranger Things prop bet that asked the question of “who will perish next.” Some of the options were main stars like Dustin Henderson (+2000), El (+2500), Mike Wheeler (+3300), and Joyce Byers (+4000). The betting favorite was Will Byers at +130 odds.
Billy and Max made their debuts on the show last season and they both were in the top half of the odds on favorites to die first. As you should know by now, none of these characters perished. With that said, Billy looks like a strong candidate to die in Season 3. But will Bovada release any prop bets on who dies first in the third season?
Keep an eye out for prop bets like this one and any others that might dot the entertainment betting landscape.
Final Thoughts on Stranger Things Season 3
With a little more than a week until the Season 3 premiere, I’m pumped up. I plan on binge watching the entire show after the fireworks on the 4th of July. Like many others, I will probably be up all night watching this show. It will also be a great way to bring in my birthday, which is on July 5th. Thanks to Netflix for this birthday present!
As for the bets themselves, there is potential to make some money here. The prop bet regarding how many nosebleeds Eleven has offers the best value and the most return on an investment.
