The United Kingdom has one of the most passionate horse racing fan bases in the world. Perhaps no racing event is as popular here as the Cheltenham Festival. The four-day festival brings in thousands of spectators to watch the country’s top horses compete. I’m going to be breaking down a few tips for betting on the Cheltenham Festival in the UK this year.
There are 28 different races taking place at the festival this year. I can’t break down the odds for each one, yet I will be looking at the current lines available for some of the most anticipated races.
All of the odds presented here are offered by Betway Sportsbook. This site has a massive user base and is widely considered to be of the best horse race betting sites in the world. Check out our 2019 Betway Sportsbook review to see exactly what this online sportsbook offers.
Let’s look at what to expect at the 2019 Cheltenham Festival!
Race Lineup for the 2019 Cheltenham Festival
The Cheltenham Festival has changed dramatically over the years. Some might argue that the biggest transformation was turning from a prestigious horse racing event into a massive party for 20-something’s, yet the festival itself has undergone some big changes in terms of its duration and race lineup.
For years, this festival took place over two days. It then began taking place over three days. Now, it’s a four-day event. The number of races has increased substantially.
As I mentioned earlier, this year’s festival will feature 28 different races. There are four featured races that fans around the UK are looking forward to in particular. These four races can be seen below.
- Champions Hurdle – March 12th
- Queen Mother Champion Chase – March 13th
- Stayers’ Hurdle – March 13th
- Cheltenham Gold Cup – March 15th
Betway Sportsbook offers hardcore racing fans the chance to place bets on every single race taking place during the Cheltenham Festival. I’ll be breaking down the odds for the four featured races taking place this year, but first, let’s look at why Betway is the best site to bet on the Cheltenham Festival in the UK this year.
Why Betway is the Best Site to Bet on the Cheltenham Festival in the UK
If you’re a sports fan in the UK, it’s likely that you’ve heard of Betway Sportsbook. This site has grown to become one of the most popular sports betting sites in the country thanks to its wide range of different betting options and safe payouts. Horse racing fans in particular love this site.
From what I’ve seen, Betway offers more horse racing odds than almost any other company. Members here will find odds on races that won’t take place for months! There are hundreds of small racing odds available every day. When it comes to betting on the Cheltenham Festival, no site offers as many wagering options.
Each of the 28 races here offers some amazing odds to cash out on.
This sports betting site has gained a great reputation for its payment system, as well. Members can make deposits here with all major credit cards including Visa and Mastercard. There are a number of withdrawal methods including bank transfers, e-wallets, and cryptocurrencies.
Horse race betting fans in the United Kingdom have access to just about all the best online sportsbooks currently operating. I looked at nearly all of them and feel that Betway is the best option to bet on the Cheltenham Festival in the UK. Take a look at the odds being offered for this event, and I think you’ll agree.
Now let’s take a look at the odds for the top four races taking place at the festival this year!
2019 Champions Hurdle Betting Odds
One of the biggest races of the event this year takes place on day one. The Champions Hurdle is, as the name suggests, a hurdle race over a distance of slightly more than 2 miles. Many of the most prestigious horses of the entire event will be competing here.
At the moment, Buveur d’Air is the betting favorite to win this race. This horse recently lost by a shoulder’s length at the Christmas Hurdle, yet he’s the most accomplished of any other horse set to compete in this particular event. Buveur d’Air is the safe bet here, and currently holds odds to win at 2.75.
Apples Jade isn’t far behind in the odds. This 7-year-old has competed in 19 different races with 13 wins. Trained by Gordon Elliot certainly helps this horse’s chances, as well. At the moment, Apples Jade holds odds of 3.00 to win the Champions Hurdle.
Want to go with a betting long shot? You might want to consider a wager on Sharjah this year. This horse is coming off two impressive wins from November and December and has odds to win the Champions Hurdle of just 10.00. This horse might be the most lucrative option to bet on the Cheltenham Festival in the UK this year.
2019 Queen Mother Champion Chase Betting Odds
This race, also known as the Betway Champions Chase, is expected to be a competitive one in 2019. It’s a Steeplechase race, which are often the hardest to predict, yet the odds here are offering some amazing opportunities to cash out.
The 2019 Queen Mother Champion Chase features one of the biggest betting favorites of any race taking place at the festival. Altior sits at the top of the odds, and for good reason. This horse has won the Tingle Creek Chase and Desert Orchid Chase with ease. Altior is a safe wager with current odds to win at 1.40.
8-year-old Bay Gelding Min has quietly moved up the betting odds over the past few weeks. Mins is coming off two straight wins and might be worth placing a bet on for the momentum alone. This horse’s odds to win are currently set at 6.00.
Just a month ago, Footpad was thought to be one of the betting favorites for the Betway Champions Chase. A second-place finish at the Leopardstown slightly lowered Footpad’s odds. I still believe this horse has a real chance at pulling off the upset this year with odds of 7.00, according to Betway.
2019 Stayers’ Hurdle Betting Odds
This is without a doubt one of the best races for those looking to bet on the Cheltenham Festival in the UK this year. The Stayers’ Cup is always one of the most popular racing events of the year. The odds here certainly make sense to me, yet there are a few betting longshots that may be worth throwing money at.
I’m not at all surprised to see Paisley Park listed as the favorite here. The Irish-based horse has won four straight races heading into the Stayers’ Hurdle. Out of nine total races, Paisley Park has won five. With momentum and a solid jockey in Aidan Coleman, this horse is the natural betting favorite with odds of 3.25.
Apples Jade appears for the second time! Once again, this horse is just trailing behind as one of the betting favorites. I listed some of Apples Jade’s accomplishments before, and for the Stayers’ Cup, his odds to win sit at 5.00.
Penhill sits third in the odds for this race. For a time, this horse was listed as the considerable betting favorite. He’s been relatively inactive as of late, with only two races in 2018. I don’t think a bet on Penhill is the smartest option, but the odds could pay off at 6.00.
2019 Cheltenham Gold Cup Betting Odds
Arguably the biggest race of all takes place on the last day of the festival. The Cheltenham Gold Cup is a Steeplechase race with 22 fences. If you’re planning to bet on the Cheltenham Festival in the UK, this is the race you need to check out.
Presenting Percy is one of the most talked-about horses of the entire event. He won the RSA Chase at Cheltenham this year and has taken first place in four of the five past races he’s competed in. Patrick G Kelly has done wonders to make Percy a top-tier competition horse. Betway Sportsbook lists Presenting Percy as the betting favorite with odds of 4.33.
Clan Des Obeaux is ranked second in the odds. To me, this seems a little high. This horse is coming off two straight wins, yet prior to that, he’d failed to win a race since late-2017. Clan Des Obeaux odds to win the 2019 Cheltenham Gold Cup are set at 5.00.
Kemboy is listed as a pretty significant underdog with odds of 10.00; however, he’s one of the most potentially lucrative options to bet on the Cheltenham Festival in the UK this year. Kemboy is one of the most active horses competing in this event. He raced eight times in 2018 with five wins. If you’re feeling lucky, consider placing a bet on this horse.
Even if you can’t attend this festival in person, sites like Betway Sportsbook give you an amazing opportunity to make money on the outcomes. Check out this site today to see the different odds available for each of the 28 races scheduled.
