This week in combat sports features a jam-packed Saturday. UFC returns with UFC Fight Night 154 in Greenville, South Carolina, the promotion’s first fight card in the state. Headlining Saturday’s card, a showdown that promises to be memorable between Renato Moicano and The Korean Zombie.
Zombie is the betting underdog for this scrap and will fight out of the blue corner. Despite being favored, Rick Rockwell believes that Moicano may just be beatable. Viewers can expect to see a punch-fest when the two step into the octagon. With Zombie sitting at the +170 mark (or better), he could be a good play for Saturday’s main event.
In the prelims, “Violent Bob Ross” fights out of the blue corner when he takes on Matt Wiman. Wiman is 35 years old, and hasn’t fought since November of 2014. Wiman is a heavy underdog for this fight and a bit of a wild card, given how long he’s been away from the cage.
One week after Bellator 222 witnessed the end of Chael Sonnen’s career, Bellator hops across the pond to London for Bellator 223. The main event features Gegard Mousasi defending his Middleweight World Championship against Rafael Lovato Jr. This is a bout where even Mousasi pointed out how incredibly talented Lovato is when the match goes to the ground.
For combat sports fans looking for a bit more blood and brutality, Bare Knuckle Fighting Championships 6 is what you’ll want to tune into this weekend. Despite BKFC being only a year old, the main event this weekend features a fight with years of bad blood. Paulie Malignaggi will take on Artem Lobov to close out the card, which should be the biggest in the promotion’s history. Malignaggi has a boxing background compared to Lobov’s MMA history, and that should give an edge to the slightly-favored Malignaggi. However, the odds are close enough to make this an interesting betting option.
In the video at the top of this page, Rick Rockwell and I break down all of these fights and more, complete with betting picks and predictions.
