2014 Belmont Stakes Odds and Preview

The morning line odds for the 146th Belmont Stakes were released on Wednesday, making California Chrome the heavy favorite to win the event at 3-5 odds. A win by California Chrome in Saturday’s Belmont Stakes would give horse racing its first Triple Crown winner since Affirmed made the clean sweep back in 1978.

While California is the clear cut favorite after taking the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes, he’s not the only horse that has a legit shot at finishing out the Triple Crown with a win at the Belmont Stakes. Wicked Strong is the next horse up, entering the Belmont Stakes at 6-1 odds and expected to finish in second place.

Wicked Strong sat out of the Preakness Stakes and last raced in the Kentucky Derby, where he came in fourth coming out of the outside. On Saturday at Belmont, he will start the race off coming out of the ninth gate.

The next two horses with the best odds are Tonalist (8-1 odds) and Ride on Curlin (12-1). Tonalist will make its Triple Crown debut, while Ride on Curlin actually finished right behind California Chrome in second place at the Preakness Stakes. The Kentucky Derby runner-up, Commanding Curve, will enter the Belmont Stakes at 15-1 odds.

4. Commanding Curve (15-1)

5. Ride on Curlin (12-1)

6. Matuszak (30-1)

7. Samraat (20-1)

8. Commissioner (20-1)

9. Wicked Strong (6-1)

10. General A Rod (20-1)

11. Tonalist (8-1)

Will California Chrome fend off Commanding Curve for the second race in a row and become the first overall winner of the Triple Crown since 1978? We’ll find out on Saturday.
