2015 MLB Opening Day: World Series Odds and Predictions
The 2015 MLB season arrived on Sunday, but it’s officially about to his us directly in the face on Monday afternoon. With a new baseball season right in front of us, it’s fair to say just about every team has at least some faint hopes of making a playoff run.
The San Francisco Giants formed into a dynasty almost over night, the Kansas City Royals and Pittsburgh Pirates have evolved out of their forever losing ways and we’ve seen plenty of bottom to top turn arounds to have us thinking this year could be pretty special.
The Giants are obviously going to be threats to win it all again, but they’re certainly not the only team the oddsmakers like.
The Washington Nationals will start the year atop the league with 6/1 odds to win it all. That makes sense, too, given their stacked pitching rotation and powerful offense. The Los Angeles Dodgers haven’t had much playoff winning to show for all the money they’ve been pouring into their ball club, but the baseball betting gurus have them right up there with Washington as 17/2 odds to be crowned the champs.
The Boston Red Sox (10/1), Seattle Mariners (12/1) and St. Louis Cardinals (12/1) are interesting options to round out the top five, as well.
Oddly enough the Giants slide down to the 11th spot (18/1), so they’re probably not a bad early season bet given their success over the past several years.
You won’t want to place a big bet on the Philadelphia Phillies (last with 150/1 odds) or the Minnesota Twins (100/1), who happen to be two cellar dwelling teams that are extremely unlikely to storm back in one of those patented one-year turn arounds. You can probably file the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies (also 100/1) right there with them, while the Tampa Bay Rays (66/1) and Atlanta Braves (66/1) tie to round out the bottom five.
The Milwaukee Brewers (50/1) are a sneaky sleeper near the middle of the pack, while the Pittsburgh Pirates (25/1), Kansas City Royals (33/1) and Baltimore Orioles (33/1) have to be some of the trendiest picks to build on last year’s momentum and try to claim a World Series.
While throwing a cheap bet on some of the bad teams isn’t a horrible idea (just for fun), targeting some of the middle teams that aren’t getting as much fun is probably the way to go.
San Francisco is one of the deeper, more balanced teams in Major League Baseball and they just won it last year. They should stand a good chance of at least getting back to the playoffs again, and once they’re in, all bets are off.
The Giants are our early pick to win it all (again), but we will also have our eye on the Royals and Pirates. Boston just might be the top sleeper, though, as they’ve done quick turn rounds with major success in the past and made some huge spash moves during the off-season.
