4th Annual American Poker Awards Finalists Unveiled

By in Poker on

The finalists for the 4th Annual American Poker Awards have been revealed after a week during which more than 100 members of the poker media, industry insiders, and poker players nominated those who they felt were most deserving in thirteen categories.

The star of the show is Poker Central, which garnered eight separate nominations: Super High Roller Bowl AND Poker Masters in the Event of the Year category, founder Cary Katz for Biggest Influencer, both Ali Nejad and Nick Schulman for Broadcaster, PokerCentral Podcast in the Podcast category, “Dead Money: A Super High Roller Bowl Story” for Media Content, and Tom Dwan’s return to American on “Poker After Dark” for Best Moment.

It speaks a lot to the impressive rise of Poker Central, which tried to launch as a 24/7 poker television network, but was only able to get a few small local/regional cable providers to put it in their channel lineup. Poker Central reinvented itself as an online streaming service, featuring rebroadcasts of popular poker television shows, original content, and rebooting of popular shows like “Poker After Dark.” It has also aimed to become a major player in live poker tournaments, creating the Poker Masters and Super High Roller Bowl, as well as gaining the rights to stream much of the WSOP Main Event.

The complete list of American Poker Awards finalists follows. The “other trophies” at the end don’t have finalists. The winners are either determined by the Global Poker Index rankings (Player of the Year and Female Player of the Year) or selected by a special panel.

Fans can also still have a say in the awards, as public voting for the People’s Choice Award for Poker Personality of the Year is still open on the American Poker Awards website.
