American Pharoah Eyes Triple Crown With Preakness Win
Horse racing fans get yet another crack at witnessing history in the making. California Chrome failed us in 2014, but things could be different with American Pharoah heading into June 6th’s Belmont Stakes with a shot at the Triple Crown.
American Paroah could become the first horse since 1978 to complete the Triple Crown sweep, after claiming the second leg of the three-race event with a win at the Preakness Stakes on Saturday afternoon.
Just like we saw two weeks ago, the other two favorites, Dortmund and Firing Line, looked ready to give American Pharoah a run for it’s money early. Another challenger arose during the 2015 Preakness Stakes, too, as sloppy fields and raining conditions made life harder on just about every jockey and horse involved.
None of that slowed down the determined American Pharoah, however, who was our pick to take the Preakness Stakes.
With a dominating performance, American Pharoah now gets to rest up for the next month or so before heading into a sure-to-be hyped up finish to this year’s Triple Crown.
The closing race will take place via the 2015 Belmont Stakes and American Pharoah will enter as the likely favorite.
American Pharoah is picking up major steam as a serious threat to take first in the Belmont Stakes, although the horse could once again face fierce competition. Firing Line and Dortmund have remained the stiffest competition through the first two races, and it’s entirely possible one finally breaks through and edges out American Paraoh. We also can’t rule out random competition coming out of nowhere to shock us all and once again spoil a solid beat for a sweep at the Triple Crown.
No horse has pulled off the feat since Affirmed did it 37 years ago, but American Pharoah was a serious contender going into the Kentucky Derby two weeks ago, and now sits very much in contention of pulling off the would-be impossible.
We’ll break down the odds, the favorites, some sleepers and our ultimate pick in the coming weeks. For now, let’s reflect on an entertaining race and the excitement American Pharoah brings to horse racing with the mere possibility of a Triple Crown winner existing, yet again.
