Daily Fantasy Baseball Targets For Tuesday, 4/5
The 2016 MLB season has officially arrived and with it comes our Tuesday looks at some sneaky sleeper plays in daily fantasy baseball.
There are always going to be elite pitchers and top shelf mashers to pay up for, but the best way to feel good about spending that cash is to lock up some sneaky sleepers that can help you put together the perfect DFS lineup.
We won’t tell you how to build your team, but we will provide you with one extra outlet to help get the job done. Be sure to come back every Tuesday as we point out our favorite cheap sleeper at or under $4k at DraftKings. Let’s dive into Tuesday’s players to target:
C: Welington Castillo – Diamondbacks ($3.1k)
Castillo was a total sack in Arizona’d Opening Day game last night, but he remains dirt cheap and brings a heavy bat to game two of the 2016 MLB season. he’s also at home against a very beatable Rockies pitcher in Chad Bettis, who had a 4.2 ERA last year and in two meetings with Arizona, got thrashed for 17 hits.
Castillo doesn’t lose anything in his splits (facing a righty) and this game in general is one to target. He is a risky play as he’s not always the most efficient hitter, but outside of Buster Posey, you’re probably going to be looking to save at catcher. Castillo is about as good as it gets when you look at value and upside today.
1B: Adrian Gonzalez – Dodgers ($4k)
Gonzo is right at our price threshold but it’s hard not to love him in a showdown with James Shields and the Padres. L.A. just rocked San Diego last night, his splits don’t hurt him and he bats high in the order (4th). He’s also getting Shields, who he’s had some solid success against in the past.
On top of all that, Gonzo is coming off of a great Opening Day effort and routinely kills righties. Shields is a sound pitcher, but he could be in trouble against the Dodgers tonight, and Gonzalez is a big reason why.
2B: Joe Panik – Giants ($4k)
San Francisco destroyed the Brewers yesterday and due to Milwaukee having weak pitching in a hitter’s park, it’s hard not to be all over the top Giants hitters today.
Panik certainly qualifies, as he’s one of the cheaper San Francisco hitters, smacked a homer yesterday and is usually a much better hitter than his 1-5 showing on Monday. Look for him to have a more efficient outing.
3B: Nick Castellanos – Tigers ($3.6k)
Castellanos and the Tigers have a pretty good matchup tonight against the Marlins, but I like him mainly because he’s good for some pop in the most random of moments. Going off of his 26 homers of a year ago, we know the guy can send it over the fence and the matchup by the numbers against Wei-Yin Chen also could work well in his favor.
SS: Trevor Story – Rockies ($3.5k)
This is a case of value and riding the wave, as rookie shortstop Trevor Story smacked two home runs last night and could continue his hot start tonight. Colorado gets Arizona again and after slapping around Zach Greinke, they’re suddenly tough to bet against in the second game of the season.
We really have nothing to go off here, other than Story was quite impressive last night and displayed some serious power all throughout spring. Shelby Miller isn’t the most cakewalk matchup ever, but he’s a talent downgrade from Greinke. Story is worth a shot in the hopes a torrid run keeps going.
OF: David Peralta – Diamondbacks ($3.7k)
There are a ton of big hitting outfielders to pick from most days, but picking the right cheap one can be tough. We may want to stick around in this Diamondbacks/Rockies game, as it’s projected to pack a lot of offensive punch and as talented as the pitchers are, they both can be beat deep.
Peralta is a good price, too, plus he got off to a great start (3 for 5) yesterday in a 10-5 loss to Colorado. The big draw here is he’s facing a right handed pitcher and he crushes righties, plus this game has a lot of scoring upside in general. The sample size versus Chad Bettis is very small, but Peralta has made quick work of him (4 of 5) when he’s faced him. At home in a high scoring matchup, he’s easily one of the top targets in daily fantasy baseball on Tuesday.
Hopefully you find the right mix of our sleepers and your own stud picks. Good luck on Tuesday and be sure to come back next Tuesday as we take another look at some MLB DFS guys to target!
