ESL One Cologne to Partner With Betway
ESL One Cologne has a new partner. Prestigious online U.K. bookmaker Betway has officially joined forces in a partnership with the top shelf eSports event, to be hosted in Germany from July 7th through July 9th.
ESL One Cologne made the news official via Twitter, while numerous reliable sources confirmed the new partnership:

Described as the biggest event for CS:GO (Counter-Strike: Global Offensive), ESL One Cologne will feature 16 of the biggest eSports teams wage war on a prize pool containing $250,000.
The move helps Betway enhance their growth in the eSports betting field, as they plan to become a huge part of live tournament broadcasts. Latching on with arguably the biggest CS:GO event figures to help them grow expotentially in a short amount of time.
Betway’s immediate goals include enhancing the live viewing experience and also providing live odds for eSports bettors to target. The live odds also figure to help measure specific players and teams to give extra insight for prospective bettors.
Betway’s Director of Marketing and Operations, Anthony Werkman, expressed the online bookmaker’s excitement about the new partnership:
“We are delighted to partner with ESL for Cologne,” Werkman said, “a landmark event of the CS:GO calendar.”
Werkman noted the massive event and the fact that the 2017 edition promises to be “the most competitive” it’s ever been. That hypothetically leads to an entertaining event in general, but also one that should yield plenty of upside and value for eSports bettors.
Betway has already offered eSports betting for the past two years, but continues its outreach in an effort to expand their services. Connecting with one of the largest eSports tournaments should go a long way in helping them accomplish their long-term goals.
Part of the process will be the new live odds presented by Betway, which Werkman also commented on:
“We are sure fans will appreciate our real-time odds on the broadcast, enabling them to test their knowledge against our team of expert trades and we wish them all the best.”
A marriage between Betway and ESL One Cologne made plenty of sense even before it happened, as both are members of the Esports Integrity Coalition. The group’s goal is to eliminate and prevent any kind of cheating or corruption within eSports.
While two prestigious entities working together for one moral, common goal is good news for the sport, the recent partnership also props up a first: live betting odds as part of a live event broadcast.
This partnership may be just the beginning of a burgeoning eSports market, which continues to promote massive events and the eSports betting scene.
The partnership between an ESL event and a huge betting conglomerate is huge news, but just as important could be the live odds being part of a live broadcast. The move could slowly cut out any negativity surrounding betting in the eSports world, while simultaneously drumming up even more interest in a growing product.
This should be just one big move of many to come, but the integration of live odds and betting should help revolutionize a sport that is by itself already arguably revolutionizing betting and how we perceive it.
