Breaking Down the Online Odds on Masvidal vs. Edwards

The feud between Jorge Masvidal and Leon Edwards goes back years. It seemed to really ignite back in March of 2019 backstage at a UFC event in London, England. After a brief verbal exchange, Masvidal unloaded three quick punches on Edwards that cut the UK-based fighter under his eye.

Many felt the UFC would choose to book these men into a fight shortly after this brawl. That never came to be. Both continued to find success, however, and it seemed like only a matter of time before these elite 170-pound fighters eventually met inside the Octagon.

Jorge went on to lose in two title fights to Kamaru Usman. He then claimed he was interested in a matchup against either Nate Diaz or Colby Covington. The UFC had different plans, however, and began working on a big fight for one of their biggest stars.

News broke this week that Masvidal is set to take on Leon Edwards in a three-round fight on December 11 at UFC 269. It’s a huge fight and could catapult the winner back toward the top of the welterweight division. BetOnline, one of the best online sportsbooks in the world, is now offering some tremendous odds on each man to win.

Jorge Masvidal comes into this bout as the +180 underdog. That’s not a surprise when considering he was knocked out badly in his last fight. Leon Edwards has not lost a bout since 2015 and is entering this matchup with odds of -210 to get the victory.

There are several factors that could end up affecting the online odds on Masvidal vs. Edwards. How will this fight being only three rounds affect the outcome?

Why Was Masvidal vs. Edwards Booked for Three Rounds?

Jorge Masvidal became a true superstar during his run in 2019. Despite two tough losses, he remains a huge figure in the sport. He is facing an extremely difficult test this weekend and has an ability to get back on track with an impressive victory over Leon Edwards in December.

Some fans were surprised to see this fight being made for three rounds. It’s not slated to be the main event of UFC 269, yet some felt it would still be booked over five rounds. Dana White was even asked about this during a recent press conference.

Many are now left wondering who this bout now favors. Both men are strikers. Leon Edwards recently competed for five rounds and won a clear decision over Nate Diaz. Masvidal has fought in five rounds before, too, and is known for having tremendous cardio.

The UFC feels confident this fight will help to sell Pay-Per-Views for its upcoming UFC 269 card. It’s not quite big enough to serve as a main event, though. This event is headlined by Charles Oliveira and Dustin Poirier in what has the potential to be one of the most exciting bouts of 2021.

UFC 269 is shaping up to be one of the biggest fights of 2021. Now is a great time to talk about the odds for some of the other bouts taking place on this card.

Odds on UFC 269 are Now Available Online

The UFC loves to end the year with a stacked Pay-Per-View event. That certainly appears to be the case with UFC 269 on December 11. It’s looking like a fantastic card headlined by Dustin Poirier and Charles Oliveira for the undisputed UFC lightweight championship.

Oliveira, the champion, comes into this bout as the +140 underdog. He’s an incredible finisher and has elite striking and grappling. Charles seems to be in his fighting prime and can prove he is among the elite pound-for-pound fighters in the UFC with a win here.

Dustin Poirier seems to be in his prime, too. He is coming off two wins over Conor McGregor that turned him into a real superstar. Dustin is very well-rounded and has the skills to earn the title here. BetOnline lists him as the -160 favorite to do so.

The co-main event between Amanda Nunes and Julianna Pena is also expected to draw in major fan interest. Nunes is one of the best female fighters to ever compete and enters this fight as the -800 favorite. Pena is coming into this bout extremely confident, yet is listed as the +500 underdog to capture the belt.
