  • Fans are left wondering if these weight issues are having an impact on the odds for Costa vs. Vettori.

In just a few days, two of the UFC’s best middleweights are set to compete. It’s now beginning to look as if this fight won’t end up taking place at 185-pounds, though. Now is a great time to talk about whether the weight botch for this fight will have any impact on the odds for Costa vs. Vettori.

Not everyone is aware of the recent weight issues surrounding this fight. It’s unfortunate and could have a big impact on these fighters’ future.

Here’s what you need to know about this situation.

Paulo Costa Reveals He Will Not Make 185 Pounds for Saturday’s Fight

For a time, it seemed as if Paulo Costa could be the best middleweight in the UFC. He ran through each opponent he faced before earning a title shot against Israel Adesanya in September of 2020. Costa lost that fight in a devastating manner and has not stepped back into the Octagon since.

Costa is finally set to compete again this Saturday in what was booked as a middleweight main event against Marvin Vettori. To the surprise of some fans, Costa has revealed that he currently weighs 211 pounds and is unable to make the middleweight limit. You can check out some of his comments below.

“My weight right now is 96kilos (211 pounds),” Costa said to the media today. “What happened yesterday, [my manager] Wallid [Ismail] talked with some people with him, Ali [Abdelaziz], his manager I think, and it’s not on the schedule to make 185 [pounds] anymore. It’s another weight. I’m not exactly [sure] which weight yet.”

The UFC will not take this news well. UFC President Dana White and the promotion’s matchmakers do not appreciate main event fighters missing weight. It’s even possible this latest blunder from “Borrachina” leads to him being cut from the promotion. Many fans are now beginning to question what this means for Saturday’s huge main event.

Those that already bet on this fight may have concerns. Has this latest news affected the odds for this upcoming fight?
