Jimmy Graham to Play in Week 7
The New Orleans Saints need all the help they can get as they head into Detroit in week seven to take on the Lions. For the past week, it sounded like they’d be a little under-manned coming out of their bye week, as star tight end Jimmy Graham has continued to struggle with a shoulder injury.
A little help
As it turns out, they might get the extra help they need. Per reports, Graham is not expected to start against the Lions on Sunday, but should be available for pieces of the game. Due to Graham still not being 100%, the team appears to be reluctant to use him in his full capacity.
In a limited role, it’s likely Graham sees the field only when New Orleans is in scoring position, giving them their best weapon in the red-zone. Graham participated in a similar role last season while dealing with an ankle injury and was able to score two touchdowns on only a handful of snaps.
Changing the Saints’ odds
Heading into a brutal week seven showdown with the league’s top-ranked defense, the Saints can use anything Graham can give them. While a limited Graham likely won’t make for major yardage in the passing game, he’s an extra element the Lions will have to think about when/if the Saints get in scoring position.
Even if used purely as a decoy, the mere presence of Graham on the field could change the way Detroit’s defense reacts to certain plays in certain situations.
Naturally, Graham being able to play even a little bit is going to change New Orleans’ odds of taking this game. It definitely helps them get closer to covering the -2 spread they have entering this week’s contest, as well.
New Orleans comes out of their bye week at just 2-3 and in desperate need of a huge road win to help them get back to .500. While no lock on the road in Detroit, getting Graham back should at least give them a much better chance of making that happen.
