Movistar Riders Drop Their Overwatch Team

By in Esports on

Movistar Riders is the latest organization to drop their Overwatch roster. The team was formed in January 2017 and sponsored by Spanish Telecommunication Major, Movistar. The Spanish company decided not to renew the player contracts after they expired. The players are now free agents and looking for new possibilities.

The organization felt that it wasn’t sustainable for them to keep an Overwatch team in the present Overwatch esports scenario. They join a long list of organizations dropping their Overwatch teams due to lack of clarity about Overwatch League, lack of LAN events and an unsustainable Overwatch esports environment.

Movistar Riders were one of the better and successful EU Overwatch teams. The team has had a string of successful results lately. They won the HND Invitational, EU PIT Championship and came in the Top four of Overwatch TakeOver.

The former roster of Movistar Riders :

  • Raymond “Kolsti” Tea (Tank)
  • Emil “destro” Krastev (Flex)
  • Andreas “Logix” Berghmans (DPS)
  • Johan “CWoosH” Klingestedt (DPS)
  • Alberto “neptuNo” González (Support)
  • Dante “Dante” Zegveld (Support)

They had also qualified for Overwatch Contenders Season 1. They ranked in the Top eight during Season 0 alongside teams such as Misfits, Laser Kittenz, eUnited, Rest in Pyjamas etc. The players are extremely talented with a very aggressive playstyle. Their gameplay is extremely fun to watch and calls for some fast paced action for the average viewer.

The Overwatch Contenders invitation goes out to the organization. Of course with Movistar no longer involved in Overwatch, they have decided to pass it down to the players. However the players will most likely not be playing together.

Some of the players have already received offers from other organizations. Some are considering changing games altogether according to Overbuff.com. It should not come as a surprise to see them being picked up by other organizations in time for Overwatch Contenders Season 1.
