Olympic Fantasy Basketball: 5 Sleepers to Target at Draftkings This Weekend

Daily fantasy basketball returns this weekend, as some of the top NBA stars join some of the best international players in the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Yes, Olympics Fantasy Basketball is a thing now over at DraftKings, and if you play your cards right, it just might make you some fast cash.

Of course, you can’t fit all of the studly NBA superstars on your roster and you’ll probably want to have a clue as to which lesser priced options may be worth using.

We can’t give you all the answers, but we can certainly point you toward some sweet value. For all of the slots you need to save at and need some help, we’ve got a slew of sleepers listed at $6.5k or cheaper over at DK this weekend:

Facundo Campazzo, PG, Argentina ($5k)

Argentina can’t hold a candle to the USA team, but they’ve won or been really competitive in their other three exhibition games leading into these Olympics.

One reason why is young point guard Facundo Capazzo, who has averaged over 10 points and 3.9 dimes in FIBA play. He’s only getting better and should continue to have a key role as Argentina gets the ball rolling against Nigeria.

Rudy Fernandez, SF, Spain ($5.8k)

Now slowly exiting his prime, one-time NBA prospect and long-time Euro stud Rudy Fernandez makes for one of the better value plays in Olympics Fantasy Basketball.

Spain is one of the more talented teams in either Group and Fernandez has been a very successful piece to their puzzle over the years. He won with Real Madrid just last year and has been on the two Spain teams to take the Silver behind USA in the last two Olympics.

Fernandez specifically dropped 22 points on the United States in the title game in 2008 and brings scoring upside, athleticism and versatility to the table on the wing. He can have lulls in his performance, but he provides some nice upside for the price.

Jimmy Butler, SG, USA ($6.2k)

A solid corer and elite cover man in the NBA, Butler could project as one of the best value plays this weekend. It’s unclear just how big of a role he’ll have in each game he plays, but he could especially be fun due to USA’s initial matchup with a weak China team.

If the United States blows out China as they’re expected to, Butler could see the floor more than some anticipated and end up returning serious value based on his price.

A 20+ points per game scorer last season, Butler can rack up fantasy points in just about every category, so the only real concern will be his playing time.

Dario Saric, PF, Croatia ($6.3k)

Saric is finally coming to the states (76ers), which is one reason to get excited. He’s also molved into an amazing overseas player, so just seeing him in general in the Olympics will be fun.

It’s even better than he can score and rebound, plus he provides value on a very good Croatia squad. He was very good during Croatia’s qualifying run to get to this point and there isn’t much logic to suggest his strong run ends.

He does face a good Spain team right off the bat, but that matchup could just as easily bring out the best in one of the better young stars in these Olympics.

Yi Jianlian, PF, China ($6.5k)

I don’t love the idea of using really even one guy on China’s team, both because they’re not very good and they draw a brutal matchup with Team USA immediately.

Not good. Still, Jianlian is the only guy on their roster that has experienced against this level of competition really, and he’s actually been awesome in China since leaving the league. He can score and rebound, too, so he could make out just fine here, even in what will surely be an ugly blowout.
