Patriots Could Be Without Tom Brady For 4 Games in 2016
The very fate Tom Brady and the New England Patriots avoided in 2015 could reer it’s ugly head in 2016. Brady narrowly avoided a four-game suspension for his suspected involved in Deflategate last season, but the after effect are reportedly leaking into next season.
The fight hasn’t gone Brady’s way the second time around, and although there is no actual evidence against Brady himself, the Patriots are reportedly “bracing” to be without their franchise quarterback four a four-game stretch at some point in 2016.
When that four-game stretch would occur, we don’t yet know, but assuming there are still five months left before the new regular season arrives, it’s likely New England will be without Brady for the first four games of 2016, much like many felt they could be a year ago.
New England ended up coming out on fire out of the gates with Brady under center last year, as they started 4-0 and ended up reaching the AFC title game.
Things could be little different in 2016, however, as Jimmy Garappolo could actually be set to start four games in place of New England’s best ever passer.
So, what does that mean for New England’s long-term run in 2016 and their early start? At the moment, we can’t know. The official 2016 NFL schedules aren’t released until the spring, which makes it impossible to know precisely what to expect for Garoppolo’s first NFL starts and the Pats as a whole.
All we can do is assume that the sledding could be rough in at least the first game, which would be Garoppolo’s first career start. We could also look for the Patriots to change up their offense to cater to Garoppolo’s strengths, or simply go with a more run-heavy approach to take the pressure off of their young signal caller.
It’s anyone’s guess how things go in those four starts (if Brady in fact loses his appeal), but it’s fair to assume the Patriots could lose one or more of those games, depending on the schedule. Naturally, the uncertainty around the quarterback position and within the offense in general, the Patriots would be far less reliable weekly bets than they usually are with Brady at the helm.
The good news is it’d just be four games and if the Pats can knock out that rough stretch early in the year, they should be able to get over any bumps in the road and end up having another strong season.
The danger comes if they fall behind in an increasingly more competitive AFC East early on. Should New England start slowly out of the gates (2-2, 1-3 or of course 0-4), their ability to go on a hot run and make another trip to the Super Bowl would be negatively impacted on a very high level.
It’s way too early to project much for the Patriots. OTAs haven’t begun yet and we haven’t even see what happens in the 2016 NFL Draft. Still, Brady’s suspension is much closer to happening that it was a year ago and it’s going to be something NFL bettors will want to monitor – both for betting on the Patriots early in the year, as well as placing bets on them to win it all in 2016.
