Philadephia Eagles, New Orleans Saints Move Up in Super Bowl LVI Oddsboards

  • The Philadelphia Eagles sliced their Super Bowl LVI odds into half, going from 125/1 to 66/1 after beating the Atlanta Falcons 32-6 in their opening game of the season.
  • New Orleans was the second-biggest mover by going from 35/1 to 20/1.
  • Saints QB Jameis Winston also saw his MVP odds improve to +2800 from +4000.

Week 1 of the 2021 NFL season is done with and it was an opening week like no other. Betting underdogs went 9-7 in 16 games and they set an all-time record by going 12-4 ATS.

The two teams on top of the totem pole kept their respective positions as the Bucs survived the Cowboys on Opening Night and the Chiefs came from behind to beat the Cowboys in their season opener.

But with so many upsets, the Super Bowl odds boards at the best NFL betting sites saw plenty of movement. Per BetOnline:

The Philadelphia Eagles and the New Orleans Saints stood out as the teams that made the most headway.

Jalen Hurts Balled Out

FanDuel had the Philadelphia Eagles at +3 and +152ML against the Atlanta Falcons in their season opener. But Jalen Hurts balled out with 264 passing yards (27/35 passing), 62 rushing yards, 3 touchdowns, and a passer rating of 126.4 as the Eagles clipped the Falcons 32-6.

After the win, Hurts saw his jersey sales surge by 500%, the largest one-day spike for any player last Sunday. The Eagles’ green number 1 jersey is now the no. 2 hottest-selling NFL product behind Mac Jones’ New England jersey. But it wasn’t just the fans who bought in, so did the betting sites.

The Eagles saw the biggest movement in the BetOnline Super Bowl odds boards as they moved from 125-1 to 66-1. That’s still a long shot but considering they halved their odds after one win, imagine what a couple more wins will do. The Eagles are not expected to win the Super Bowl but after week 1, they are the only NFC East team with a victory.

The NFC East was the weakest division in the NFL last season and is perhaps the most wide-open group this year. After week 1, Philly is the only NFC East team with a win and as such, they have moved to second in the divisional odds board. DraftKings has the best odds on the Eagles at +350 while they are shortest at BetMGM at +260 and are +275 at Bet365.

Saints Beat Packers 38-3

After the Eagles, the team with the next biggest improvement in Super Bowl Odds is the New Orleans Saints who moved from 35/1 to 20/1. New Orleans is currently 10th among 32 teams and has the sixth shortest odds to win Super Bowl LVI. New Orleans has also risen to +2500 at FanDuel and BetMGM.

New Orleans only beat Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers 38-3 in a one-sided affair starring Jameis Winston, who won the starting QB job from last season’s back-up Taysom Hill only during preseason play.

Winston became the first QB in the history of the NFL to throw five touchdown passes with less than 150 passing yards. The former no. 1 pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2015 NFL Draft completed 14/20 passes for 148 yards to outduel reigning MVP Aaron Rodgers who had zero scores and two picks. Winston also became the first QB since Dan Marino in 1984 to out-throw a reigning MVP 5-0 in touchdown passes.

Following his impressive debut, Winston saw his MVP odds rise from +4000 to +2800 at PointsBet. Winston’s lowest MVP odds are currently at BetOnline where he is currently listed at +1600. He is also listed at +2500 to win MVP honors at BetMGM. Winston’s odds to win Comeback Player of the Year also shortened to +350 at SportsBetting.ag, giving him the second shortest odds behind Dak Prescott’s +180.
