PokerStars Launches 100 Millionth Customer Promotion
PokerStars has been dealing real money online poker games for a decade and a half. In that time, the site has garnered 100 million players, the 100 millionth signing up on Monday, January 25th, under the name “ArtiB73.” As this is PokerStars and this is a big, round number, the world’s largest internet poker room is throwing a celebratory promotion during the month of February.
The first two weeks of the month will feature VIP Steps Challenges. Those who earn enough VIP Player Points (VPP) to jump three VIP Steps during the promo will complete the VIP Steps Challenge 1 and receive anywhere from 5 to 1 million StarsCoin. Like the Spin & Go prizes, the player’s reward is determined by a probability table and like the Spin & Go prizes, the most common prizes are on the very low end. 82.2 percent will be 50 StarsCoin or fewer for Bronze Star players; 97.2 percent will be 100 or fewer. The probability of winning 1 million StarsCoin is .005 percent. The probabilities increase the higher one is in the VIP tiers, but it’s not like Platinum Stars have some amazing chance of winning the grand prize.
The situation is similar for the VIP Steps Challenge 2, except the prizes are bigger and the top prize is 2 million StarsCoin.
For the second half of February, PokerStars is celebrating various milestones in the site’s history with the aptly named PokerStars Milestone Challenges. These challenges have not been announced in advance, but can be found in the Challenges window in the poker client each day from February 15th through February 29th. Each day will feature one silver and one gold challenge that will award what could be a cash prize. I say “what could be” because 77 percent of the time for the silver challenge and 60 percent of the time for the gold challenge, it will just be a seat in an All-In Shootout. The rest of the silver prizes range from $2 to $10,000) while the gold prizes range from $5 to $100,000.
The list of milestones is as follows:
2001 – Launch of Real Money Poker Games
2002 – First World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) Main Event
2003 – Chris Moneymaker wins the World Series of Poker
2004 – Launch of the European Poker Tour
