Burgos and Quarantillo recently figured in bouts that ended in a strange o unusual stoppage

Strange-Looking TKO Loss to Barboza

Burgos heads to this fight coming off a strange-looking TKO loss against Edson Barboza last May 15th. In that fight, Barboza hurt Burgos with a couple of punches in the third round. It seemed that Burgos took the punches well but after four seconds, he suddenly stumbled backward and fell down. Barboza immediately pounced on Burgos and was declared the winner by 3rd round TKO.

The loss was the second straight for Burgos who was beaten by Josh Emmett via unanimous decision in June 2020. Going farther back, Burgos is just 3-3 in his last six bouts after starting his MMA career with 10 consecutive wins across four different promotions including CFFC and the UFC. Overall, Burgos is 13-3 with five knockouts and five wins via knockout.

The 30-year old from Bronx, New York is well-loved by the best MMA betting sites. He has opened and closed as the betting favorite in each of his last 10 bouts and has never closed at odds longer than -161. However, he has been upset thrice in his last six bouts, losing as the -`161 chalk against Barboza, as the -190 favorite against Emmett, and as a -250 odds on favorite against Calvin Kattar at UFC 220.

Unusual TKO From Back Control

Like Burgos, Quarantillo is coming off a fight that ended in unfamiliar circumstances. But while Burgos was in the losing end of that strange knockout, it was Quarantillo who scored an unusual TKO against Gabriel Benitez. It was not usual because the referee stopped the bout while Quarantillo was landing heavy punches on Benitez from back control.

With the win, Quarantillo bounced back nicely after suffering his first UFC loss to Gavin Tucker at UFC 256 last December 12, 2020. Prior to that defeat, Quarantillo had won eight consecutive bouts at KOTC, V3, and the UFC. After a TKO win over Kamuela Kirk at the Contender Series 21 event, he earned a UFC contract and opened his Octagon career with three consecutive wins.

Quarantillo has closed as the betting underdog in only two out of his last six bouts. The 32-year old from Ransomville, New York closed as the +140 bottom dog in his win against Benitez. He was also the +245 betting underdog when he stopped Kirk at the Contender Series. Quarantillo was the -190 betting favorite when he was outpointed by Tucker last December.
