Stephen Curry is off to a blistering start to the 2021-22 NBA season.

After posting a triple-double on a poor shooting night against the Los Angeles Lakers on Opening Night, Chef Curry was cooking against the Lakers’ cross-town rivals Clippers on Friday night, scoring 45 points to lead the Warriors to their second win in as many games played so far this season.

Curry entered the season as one of the early favorites to win the 2022 NBA MVP Award. At Bovada, Curry was tied with Joel Embiid and Kevin Durant at +700, the third-shortest odds to win the award with only Luka Doncic and Giannis Antetokounmpo having shorter odds at +400 and +650. But after just one Golden State games played, Curry has moved up the MVP betting boards.

Curry New MVP Favorite at Circa Sports

At Circa Sports, Curry is the new MVP odds on favorite at +450, just slightly ahead of Giannis Antetokounmpo who is a +485 at the said sportsbook. Preseason favorite Luka Doncic has dropped to +650 and is in a tie with Kevin Durant. 2021 NBA MVP Nikola Jokic and Sixers big man Joel Embiid are both listed at +1300 while Brooklyn’s James Harden is priced at +1800.

Curry is currently tied with Antetokounmpo and Doncic atop the Caesars Sportsbook MVP odds board at +500. Durant is listed at +700 there while Embiid and Jokic are pegged at +1000 and +1400, respectively. Chef Curry and the Greek Freak are also at +500 via Bet365 US and they are behind Doncic who is the betting favorite there at +400.

Antetokounmpo is the new odds on favorite at +450 via PointsBet. Curry is second at +500 while Doncic had dropped to third at +600. Giannis is also the odds on favorite at BetMGM with his +550 odds. Curry and Doncic are tied as second favorites at +600 but Curry has the second most tickets and handle after Giannis. At FoxBet, Antetokounmpo and Curry are the co-favorites at 600 while Kevin Durant is second at +650. Doncic had drifted to +650 at that sportsbook.

Playing Like the MVP

One game after saying he played like trash, Curry played like the MVP. The Warriors’ two-time MVP scored 45 points on 16/25 shooting including 8/13 from behind the three-point arc and 5/5 from the foul line. He also added 10 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, and one blocked shot while making clutch baskets.

Curry tied a career-high with 25 first-quarter points by making his first 9 shots of the game. It was his 35th 20-point quarter, the second-most behind Kobe Bryant’s 36 since 1996. It was also his 66th career game with at least 8 three-pointers made, most in NBA history. Damian Lillard, who is second on that list, with 27.

But more importantly for the Warriors, they are 2-0 to start the season, perhaps justifying their short preseason championship and conference odds. Many wondered why the Warriors are ranked so high in the oddsboards – +450 to win the West ( 2nd best odds ) and +900 to win the NBA title (4th best odds) when Klay Thompson won’t be available until at least Christmas Day. We now have our answer and the best NBA sportsbooks are taking notice.
