Tom Brady’s MVP Odds Significantly Improve After 5-TD Performance

  • Tom Brady threw five TD passes on Sunday, leading the Bucs to a win over the Atlanta Falcons and sending his season total to a league-best 9.
  • With his performance, online sportsbook BetOnline has put Brady on top of their MVP odds board at +500, with former odds on favorite Patrick Mahomes now second at +550.
  • Mahomes however, is still the favorite- though slightly, at most of the best NFL sportsbooks.

Tom Brady is unfair.

At age 44, he threw five TD passes in the second game of the 2021 NFL season. That’s after he threw four TD passes last week on opening night.

It’s the first time that Brady has started the season with back-to-back 4 touchdown games. Including last season, he has 17 touchdowns in his last four games. The last time he did that was in 2007 when he won MVP honors. Sunday was also Brady’s first five TD games with no interceptions since 2017 when he last won the NFL’s MVP award. Now, he’s ascended to MVP betting favorite at one of the top NFL sportsbooks.

Online sportsbook BetOnline has moved Tom Brady to the top of its MVP odds board at +500. Patrick Mahomes, who has held on to the top spot since the odds were first released, has been relegated to the second favorite at +550. Kyler Murray at +600 is the only other favorite to have odds shorter than +1000. But Mahomes is 26 years old and Murray is 24. Tom Brady is 44 and playing in his 22nd NFL season.

Brady Aging in Reverse?

Everyone agrees that Father Time is unbeaten. But right now, Brady is making Father Time wait, perhaps too long. On Sunday, Brady passed for 276 yards with 5 TDs, zero interceptions, and a 129.2 passer rating as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat the Atlanta Falcons 48-25 as 13-point betting favorites.

With Brady weaving his GOAT magic, the Bucs have become the first team in NFL history to score at least 30 points and win in nine consecutive games, including the playoffs. Brady was also the starting quarterback of the two other teams to win in 8 straight games while scoring at least 30 in each one. He did it in 2007 and 2011 or 14 and 10 years ago.

After two weeks, Brady leads the league with a total of 9 passing touchdowns. He also has a total of 154 passing touchdowns since turning 40-years old In comparison, which is just 13 fewer than the total of 167 passing TDs he threw during his 20’s. That’s absurd because the statistical production of athletes is supposed to be inversely proportional to age. However, it looks like Tom Brady is aging in reverse.

Brady’s Odds Have Shifted

Tom Brady started the day at +1200 to win the 2022 NFL MVP award at PointsBet. After throwing five touchdowns against the Falcons, he’s moved to +550. Mahomes is still holding on to the odds-on-favorite position at +500 via PointsBet.DraftKings also still has Mahomes on top at +550. Brady has climbed to tie Murray at second there at +750.

At FanDuel, Mahomes and Muray are listed at +500. Brady is second at +700. BetMGM meanwhile faded Mahomes to +600 and Murray to +650 with Brady climbing their ladder at +700. On the other hand, Bet365 has Mahomes at +600 with Brady the second-favorite at +650 and Murray third at 800.

Right now, it’s only BetOnline who has put Brady above everyone else in their MVP odds board. But everywhere else, his betting odds have shifted significantly. And given the hype surrounding his campaign, it may only be a matter of time when the oldest active player in the league will take over the MVP betting boards. That’s unheard of, even in the other North American Pro Leagues.
