Trey Burke Trade Rumors: 6 Teams That Could Use the Jazz Guard
The Utah Jazz were a team looking for serious help at the point guard position just a few years ago. They drafted Trey Burker and Dante Exum and in the last two years swung trades for Shelvin Mack and George Hill.
It’s still arguable that Utah has yet to find a full-fledge star point guard they can trust long-term, but there’s no doubt they’ve made progress and built up the position,
There’s also no denying it is now a little too crowded.
Utah doesn’t disagree, per reports, and former Michigan star point guard Trey Burke figures to be the odd man out.
Utah is making G Trey Burke available via trade, league sources say, after the recent deal for George Hill and with Dante Exum coming back.

Burke never made it as the answer to Utah’s point guard woes, but he still provided a scoring spark and for the right team, could still potentially develop into a starting option.
That team doesn’t appear to be the Jazz, however, and hence we have the latest Trey Burke rumors. There isn’t a locked in destination for Burke just yet, but several teams could still use a starting point guard or at least some scoring depth off the bench. We’ve got six teams we think could use Burke:
New York Knicks
New York could be a leading destination for Trey Burke, as they just traded away their point guard depth to land Derrick Rose. They hope Rose is the answer, but they still need some depth behind him and due to his shaky injury history, they may want someone who could start, if needed.
Burke could be that guy, and even if Rose stays healthy and plays well, he’d provide solid depth as a scoring guard off the bench – something else New York badly needs.
The Nets have very little to be excited about, as they just dumped Thaddeus Young in a draft and have Brook Lopez and that’s about it.
Brooklyn is clearly tanking yet again, but Jarrett Jack tore his ACL last year and Shane Larkin and Donald Sloan aren’t starters. It may be tough to see them dish out assets or any players they like on their roster for Burke, but there’s no denying they could use the help at point guard.
Chicago has nothing at the point after trading Derrick Rose, so they’d be wise to be players in free agency or trade talks. Jose Calderon is washed up and Jerian Grant is a project, so a guy like Burke could do them a lot of good.
Trey Burke is the type of dude Bulls should look at. He’s not good, but cheap, young player and maybe he finds something. If not, oh well.

Utah could use small forward depth, so trading a pick and an aging Mike Dunleavy is something for both sides to consider.
Mike Conley is looking like a goner in free agency, which could have the Grizzlies scrambling to add some point guard help.
The team did draft Wade Baldwin and signed Tony Wroten, but both players lack experience or a reliable jumper. Burke, whether it be starting or off the bench, could give them that, and maybe more.
Ish Smith could be out the door this summer, which would promptly leave Philly with no clear answer at the point. T.J. McConnell and Kendall Marshall are spare parts and don’t offer the scoring upside someone like Burke can bring to the table.
It’d be interesting to see what the Sixers put together to get Burke, but they have some assets and certainly could use the guard upgrade.
The Kings are another team that appear unsure about their point guard position, as Rajon Rondo is scheduled to hit free agency and Darren Collison is facing some serious off the court issues.
If Rondo jets and the Kings don’t feel they can rely on Collison, they could quickly be leaning hard on Seth Curry. Even if they like Curry with a big role, they’d need some depth and another guy that can either back him up or replace him if he falters. Burke could be that guy and it might be a good opportunity for Sacramento to dump off one of their many big men.
Think Burke could be headed to one of the teams above, or somewhere else entirely? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
