UEFA Champions League Quarter Finals: Betting Preview
The UEFA Champions League quarter finals start this week, with some interesting looking ties. There are plenty of betting opportunities but, as is usual at this stage, it is a challenge to find any real value. We’ve taken a look and tried to find some stand out bets. The four ties are as follows.
- Barcelona v Atletico Madrid
- Manchester United v Bayern Munich
- Paris Saint Germain v Chelsea
- Real Madrid v Borussia Dortmund
Barcelona are the clear favorites to progress against Atletico Madrid, with odds available at around 1.40. However, it is probably fair to say that these odds more accurately reflect Barcelona’s history in the competition rather the current form of these two sides. Atletico have taken many by surprise this season and are currently top of La Liga, ahead of Barcelona in second.
The two teams have already met twice this season, with both games ending 0-0. With this is mind it is difficult to see quite why Barcelona are such favorites, even taking into account their abundance of experience at this stage of the Champions League. That’s not to say that Atletico to qualify is a good bet either though; it’s probably best to leave the “to qualify” market alone for this tie.
Barcelona to win the home leg is priced at around 1.50, and this represents a better value bet in our opinion. Both teams to score, at around 1.80, also seems like a good bet despite the two goalless draws in previous meetings. The sides are both attack minded and will be sure to be going for it.
With Bayern Munich dominating their domestic league and Manchester United having a tough season, it is no surprise to see that they are overwhelmingly fancied to progress to the next round. The best odds around seem to be about 1.15. It is difficult to see much value with odds this low but it is even more difficult to see Manchester overcoming Bayern over the two legs. It is probably the right bet to make.
We will take a look at the other two ties in more detail tomorrow.
