Week 13 Daily Fantasy Football: Best Picks at Each Position
Sometimes the top daily fantasy football picks really end up being the worst. Two weeks ago that was the case if you confided in guys like Julio Jones and DeAndre Hopkins. In week 13, it may have been Adrian Peterson and/or Todd Gurley that buried you.
We mostly shied away from those two, but you could have gotten sunk by a proposed elite, regardless. That should never happen, but sometimes a brutal matchup or nagging injury really is as bad as it seems. Let’s take that into consideration as we take a gander at the top priced options over at DraftKings this week and decide which ones are actually worth paying up for:
QB: Cam Newton – Panthers ($7.5k) and Tom Brady – Patriots ($7.8k)
There aren’t any other quarterbacks better than these two guys right now. Both are coming off of huge 37+ fantasy point outings and you could argue all day why one is better than the other. The only thing that stands out is their matchup, as Brady has a much tougher draw against a feisty Texans defense on the road. Both should be plenty fine in week 14, however.
RB: Doug Martin – Buccaneers ($6.2k) and LeSean McCoy – Bills ($6.1k)
There are not many elite running backs around these days, and the ones that do exist have really tough matchups. Martin and McCoy really don’t though, and certainly qualify as elite talents. They both have unique situations, as The Muscle Hamster has been putting up solid yardage and gets an awful New Orleans defense, while Shady gets his former team, the Philadelphia Eagles. I like Martin’s matchup better, but it’s going to be fun to use McCoy and see how bad he wants to crush the team that traded him away.
WR: Odell Beckham Jr. – Giants ($9.1k) and Antonio Brown – Steelers ($8.9k)
Julio Jones and DeAndre Hopkins are tough sells this week with them both drawing top of the line cover corners. They could actually end up being cool contrarian plays, but for top-priced guys, they have more risk than you’ll want. That’s not the case for ODB or Brown this week. Beckham closes the week against a beatable Miami pass defense on Monday Night Football, and a guy with his talent and swagger is always fun under the bright lights. Brown could be just as tempting, though, as he’s fresh off of a huge 40-point fantasy outing.
TE: Greg Olsen – Panthers ($6.9k) and Delanie Walker – Titans ($5.6k)
Rob Gronkowski and Tyler Eifert are both in doubt again this week, which puts Greg Olsen firmly atop the tight end position. That was the case last week and he certainly didn’t disappoint en route to nine receptions and over 100 yards. He’s probably due for a mild regression and I hate his price tag, but his matchup isn’t the worst and let’s face it – he and these Panthers have been amazing.
Walker is right up there with Olsen in terms of role (six or more catches in three straight games) but he’s quite a bit cheaper. I’m not in love with his matchup with the Jets, but they’ve been banged up and actually have been getting killed through the air lately.
DEF: Seahawks ($3.5k) and Chiefs ($3.2k)
Seattle completely stifled the Vikings in Minnesota in week 13, potentially confirming that the Legion of Boom is back in full force. If that’s even remotely the case, they’re going to be tough to fade with a tasty matchup against the Matt Schaub-led Ravens.
That’s probably the defensive play of the week based off of matchup, but if you just want a great defense that’s playing extremely well, consider the Chiefs. They’re a better price and face a Chargers offense they completely demolished just a couple of weeks ago.
