Week 14 NFL Injury Report With Betting Advice
The NFL world got some big news a couple of days ago when Saints running back Mark Ingram was suddenly sent to season-ending injured reserve. Ingram seemed fine despite a troublesome shoulder issue, so it was a surprise to see him get shut down so fast.
Then again, with New Orleans enduring another lost year, it really isn’t. That is one type of injury issue NFL bettors need to consider down the stretch run, as guys can be limited or completely shutdown to protect them for the future, or playoff contenders could take guys out to save them for next month.
We’ll keep tabs on that kind of information as it comes out, but for now let’s focus on Ingram and all of the other big injury news that could impact NFL betting in week 14:
Matt Schaub, QB, Ravens – OUT
Schaub took over for the injured Joe Flacco a couple of weeks ago and even got a win. He’s out with a chest issue, however, which pits the inept Jimmy Clausen up against the Seattle Seahawks for the second time this year. Baltimore doesn’t stand a chance.
Mark Ingram, RB, Saints – OUT
Ingram has been placed on season-ending injured reserve due to a shoulder injury. The Saints already are a pathetic road team, so losing one of their best offensive players naturally crushes their shot of beating the Bucs in Tampa Bay this week.
C.J. Anderson, RB, Broncos – Questionable
Anderson is dealing with an ankle sprain and could play, but if he does is to be “very limited”. It shouldn’t matter, as the Broncos took care of the Raiders in their previous meeting and should again this week.
DeAndre Hopkins, WR, Texans – Questionable
Nuk has been a little banged up for a few weeks now but he’s not at risk of missing Houston’s tilt with the Pats. The Texans are the understandable underdogs, but a healthy Hopkins gives them a chance to win at home.
Calvin Johnson, WR, Lions – Probable
Megatron has been banged up with numerous ailments all year, but has yet to miss a game. The Lions are out of the playoff hunt but face a similarly disappointing Rams team in St. Louis. His matchup isn’t the greatest but Detroit has won three of their last four and enter this week with a shot of making it four of five.
Brandin Cooks, WR, Saints – Probable
Cooks was though to have sustained a concussion last week but apparently never did and looks to be fine heading into week 14. He could be quite busy with the Saints not having any running backs to lean on, but the Saints are still going to have a tough time taking down the Buccaneers on the road.
Julian Edelman, WR, Patriots – OUT
Edelman practiced this week and had the media in a buzz thinking he could return, but he’s already been ruled out with his foot issue. He could be back in week 15, but he won’t be able to help the Pats in Houston on Sunday night.
Stevie Johnson, WR, Chargers – OUT
Johnson is yet another Chargers player that is on the shelf and he’ll miss week 14. San Diego is severely depleted on offense heading into the new week and could be in trouble against the Chiefs.
Rob Gronkowski, TE, Patriots – Questionable
The Gronk made the trip to Houston this week and told the media he’d be ready to go if the Pats needed him. He’s still questionable to play, but the fact that he’s ready and willing gives him a good chance to hit the field. He’d help the Patriots’ chances of ending their two-game losing streak if he plays.
