Pavel Plesuv Wins WPT Seminole Rock ‘N’ Roll Poker Open Main Event

Pavel Plesuv won the World Poker Tour (WPT) Seminole Rock ‘N’ Roll Poker Open Main Event, topping a field of 898 entries for a prize of just over half a million dollars. It is Plesuv’s first WPT title after coming tantalizingly close in 2015, when he was the runner-up in the partypoker WPT Prague Main Event.

“It feels pretty awesome,” he told WPT.com in his post-game interview. “It feels really awesome because I was heads-up three years ago at the WPT in Prague with a big lead and I lost it heads-up. So I’m pretty excited to come back and win.”

“This is the best year so far,” he added. “It started with a win in February and I’m finishing the year with a win here, and maybe I’ll win something in December. We’ll see, but this is awesome. I’ve been running pretty good.”

This is definitely Plesuv’s best year. In 2018, he has won more than $2.5 million in live tournaments. Every year in which he has recorded a cash, he has won more money than in the previous year. If that trend continues, look out record books.

Rich Alati Going Dark for $100,000

Poker pro Rich Alati is trying to win an insane prop bet right, hopefully not actually going insane at the same time. Alati is in the midst of a possible 30-day stretch, alone in a dark hotel bathroom, trying to win $100,000 from poker pro Rory Young.

The room is pitch black, no light at all. Alati is not permitted any contact with the outside world, no electronics, no light-emitting devices. Just himself in darkness with a few night-vision cameras sending a video feed to a few friends and family. He does have a bed, toilet, shower, sink, and bathtub.

He is also being delivered food from Las Vegas restaurant Flower Child and has some basic food in a fridge. The food deliveries will supply him with several days of food at a time, but will come at irregular intervals so that no clues are being given as to how much time has passed.

If Alati gives up before the 30 days are up – and the odds are against him – he will owe Young $100,000.

PokerStars Approved for Operations in Pennsylvania

On Wednesday, PokerStars was given the green light by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board to offer its gaming software for online gambling in the state. PokerStars will not be the actual gaming operator, but instead has partnered with licenses brick-and-mortar casinos.

For poker, PokerStars inked a deal with Mount Airy Casino Resort in which Mount Airy will be the licensed operator, using the Stars software. Same goes for online casino games, which have actually been the big cash cow for the states with legalized online gambling, even though we would all love to see poker carrying the day.

The Stars Group, parent of PokerStars, also recently signed a 20-year agreement with Eldorado Resorts to be Eldorado’s online sports betting provider. This gives Stars a sports betting presence in Pennsylvania as well as a footprint in about a dozen more states, should sports betting legalization keep spreading.
