Nevada Black Book Gets Two New Chapters

Two men, Anthony Granito and James Cooper, have been added to the infamous Nevada casino “Black Book” and are thus banned from the state’s casinos for life. The men, along with Jeffrey Martin and Mark Branco, were involved in a scheme to cheat the Bellagio out of more than a million dollars at the craps tables.

The details aren’t exactly clear to those not fully versed in gaming scams, but according to Richard Velotta of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the four-man crew would work the same table. Granito and Martin would place a “hop bet” as the shooter tossed the dice, which is a bet on the specific values that would come up on each die (6 and 4, 2 and 5, 3 and 3, etc.). They would mumble the bet, which somehow would result in them getting paid off handsomely and even though the team lost thousands of dollars in normal bets, they still profited $1.2 million.

All four men have been granted hearings by the Nevada Gaming Control Board, but because Granito and Cooper declined the hearings, they were automatically put in the Black Book and banned from Nevada casinos for life.

PokerNews Owner Sued for Copyright Violations

PokerNews.com publishes a hell of a lot of poker content. And now its parent company, iBusMedia, has been sued by several record companies for PokerNews’ use of music in podcasts and videos. MGB, PolyGram, Songs of Universal, Universal Music, and Z Tunes allege that PokerNews has used 46 songs without receiving the proper licensing for them.

The songs have been used in more than 250 podcasts and videos. As copyright law allows for damages of up to $150,000 per song, iBusMedia could be on the hook for $6.9 million.

The lawsuit states that iBusMedia was told three years ago to stop and the company said it would, but it never did. The plaintiffs also debunk any sort of argument that iBusMedia may have been ignorant of the law because on its own site, it states that its content may not be used without permission.

WPT Releases Partial 2019 Schedule

The World Poker Tour has announced ten tour stops for the 2019 portion of the current WPT season. Many of the usual suspects are there, like the WPT Fallsview Poker Classic, WPT Rolling Thunder, and the WPT Borgata Winter Poker Open, but a couple, like the WPT L.A. Poker Classic and WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open, are not on the list. Fortunately for those who have been looking forward to those tour stops, this is just a portion of the second half schedule.

One new feature of the Tour that will begin in 2019 is a delayed final table for some of the events. The tournaments will pause when the field is down to six players, who will then travel to Las Vegas several weeks later (paid for by the WPT) to finish it out. The venue will be the $25 million HyperX Esports Arena Las Vegas at Luxor Hotel & Casino, which was already home to the WPT Bellagio Elite Poker Championship $25,000 High Roller and WPT Tournament of Champions final tables.

VP of Global Tour Management Angelica Hael said in a press release,

“Our players and casino partners deserve the brightest spotlight poker has to offer and what better way to give them that than inside the new official home of poker at the HyperX Esports Arena. The WPT is excited to work with our Esports Arena final tablists to provide a true superstar VIP experience.”

The Baccarat Crystal WPT Tournament of Champions will end the season from June 1st through June 3rd at the ARIA Hotel & Resort.
