2017 World Series Game 3 – MLB Pick for October 27th

Los Angeles Dodgers (+109)
VS
Houston Astros (-129)
Total: 8

We’re not sure what the Astros and Dodgers can do to top Game 2, but we’ll be watching. The Astros evened the World Series in the most dramatic way possible on Wednesday when they lit up the previously-unhittable Dodgers’ pitching staff late in the game. Home runs from Marwin Gonzalez, Jose Altuve, Carlos Correa and George Springer lifted the Astros out of a 0-2 hole and into the driver’s seat.

Now, with the series squared up at 1-1, the Astros will get three games on their home turf, where they are 6-0 so far in the postseason. Lance McCullers Jr., who dominated the Yankees in two appearances in the ALCS, will toe the rubber in Game 3 opposite Dodger right-hander Yu Darvish.

Darvish and the Astros’ hitters are quite familiar with one another. Darvish spent the entirety of his career in the AL West alongside the Astros before being shipped to Los Angeles on July 31. In all, current Houston hitters have logged 163 official at-bats against Darvish. That said, they haven’t had a whole lot of success, as they’re hitting a collective .190/.249/.288 against him historically.

While the results haven’t been particularly kind, it’s still an advantageous matchup for the Astros. They know what to expect out of Darvish because they’ve seen him time and time again. In two starts against Houston as a Ranger earlier this year, Darvish went 1-1 with an ERA of 3.00 across 12 innings of work.

Darvish has been one of the many stellar pitchers for LA during the current postseason run. He’s allowed just two runs, both via solo home runs, in 11.1 innings of work along with 14 strikeouts in his two starts thus far.

McCullers has made one start along with a pair of relief outings during Houston’s run. While he struggled with injuries in the second half of the season, McCullers of late has looked like the All-Star that he was during the first half of the season. He’s surrendered just three earned runs in 13 innings of work with 13 whiffs in his three outings so far.

McCullers has a dynamic curveball, and the Dodgers are going to see plenty of it here tonight. He has always been outstanding in his home yard, and the adrenaline will surely be flowing for the youngster tonight in front of a raucous crowd at Minute Maid Park.

The Astros are the slight betting favorite, and we like them to take Game 3. Houston’s bats finally came to life late in Game 2, and we think that confidence will carry over into tonight’s game. The club’s collective familiarity with what Darvish brings to the table will help them in this one.

Take Houston at home.
