NBA Finals Pick for Game 6: Golden State Warriors vs Toronto Raptors

The Toronto Raptors had an opportunity to clinch their first NBA Championship in franchise history Monday night, and they could’ve done so at home. Instead, the Golden State Warriors managed to hold off a late surge from Toronto to pick up a narrow 106-105 win. That win makes it a 3-2 series lead for the Raptors headed into Game 6 in Oakland.

Golden State led most of Game 5. In the fourth quarter, the Raptors finally managed to close the gap between the teams, eventually taking the lead. Leading by as many as six points late in the fourth, Toronto could not hang on. The Warriors overcame that deficit, eking by with that one-point victory.

Kevin Durant returned to the starting lineup for Golden State in Game 5, but his night would not last long. In the second quarter, having played 11 minutes, Durant went down with an injury to his Achilles tendon (a different injury than the one that held Durant out since late in Round 2). Durant will not play in Game 6, nor would he be available for Game 7 if Golden State can even the series on Thursday.

Stephen Curry led the Warriors with 31 points in Game 5, with Klay Thompson right behind him with 26. Kawhi Leonard was once again Toronto’s top player, finishing with 26 points.

Game 6 has the Warriors favored to win by three points, with a -105 payout to take the Warriors -3 and a -115 payout if you grab the Raptors +3. On the moneyline, it’s Golden State at -140 and Toronto at +120. Thursday’s game will be the last played at Golden State’s Oracle Arena, as the Warriors will relocate to San Francisco in the fall.

Our pick for Game 6 is to take the Warriors on the spread. While it’s fully possible that losing at home in Game 5 ends up shocking the Raptors back into focus, Golden State should never be taken lightly. The Warriors controlled most of Game 5, even after Durant left with his injury. The road team has won four straight games in the series, but after Game 5, it feels that this series is destined to go the full seven.
