April 30th MLS Pick: DC United at Atlanta United
Sadly, the MLS scheduled just one game for Sunday afternoon, but at least it’s a good one. Atlanta United will play in front of their massive home crowd for the first time in nearly a month as DC United play on the road for a second consecutive week.
Will Atlanta keep their impressive maiden campaign going, or will DC United spoil the party?
- Moneyline: DC +385, Atlanta -140, Draw +270
- Betting Value: Wouldn’t be a surprise if ATL hit the over on their own.
Soccer Sunday’s lone tilt pits DC United against Atlanta United, who are back at home after a three-game road swing. After drawing Toronto and losing a tough one in stoppage time to Montreal, United got back into the win column by trouncing Real Salt Lake at Rio Tinto Stadium last Saturday. DC United, meanwhile, drew 2-2 with New England.
Atlanta took advantage of some defensive gaffes by RSL in scoring their first two goals of the game. Miguel Almiron was clearly the most dominant player out there for either side, and he’s quickly emerging as one of the league’s most influential players in midfield.
The point DC salvaged in Foxborough was their first tally of the season away from RFK Stadium. They were victimized by some lousy luck, as they hit the post three times and were denied a chance at taking all three points.
Atlanta has one of the best home field advantages of any team in MLS so far this season, and they’ll be eager to give the home fans a show after several weeks on the road.
